Located to the southeast of Utah is a vast
and truly spectacular region bordering Colorado.
Canyonlands together with the Arches National park covers some 640 square
miles much of it
accessible by road and trail.
On show is a diversity of extraordinary rock formation and surface erosion
that at times give an
impression of a lunar landscape. To see all the incredible sights of Canyonlands
alone requires
considerable time to drive around all the viewpoints. Perhaps at least two
days should be set aside for
this trip.
Dead Horse State Park is accessed close to Canyonlands and to many visitors
has some of the finest
vistas in the Parks. As it is a State Park the 'Parks Pass' is not valid
but the fee is very reasonable and certainly well worth it. Fantastic views
of the Colorado river cutting its way through the rugged terrain
will have you reaching for your camera once again.
With Canyonlands The Arches and Dead Horse Point located within the region
the obvious place to
lodge is Moab which boasts a good range of Hotels, Motels & guest Houses
to suit all budgets.
There is also an abundance of restaurants and cafes.
From Moab driving north on Hwy 191 Canyonlands, Dead Horse Point State Park
can be reached in
well under an hour by car, The Arches just a 10 minute drive to the entrance.
International airports within reasonable
driving distance of Moab.
