LEGO MINI Rebel Blockade Runner (RBR) - an overview

A "quick & dirty" page to post up details of the new (as of early Nov 2002) LEGO MINI Rebel Blockade Runner, at this time only available as part of the newly released Lego Imperial Star Destroyer kit. It consists of 78 pieces. Lego have stated that this, and the recent 'exclusive' MINI TIE represent the first products in a new range of MINI-scale Star Wars vehicles - see FBTB.net for more details on the first batch of retail sets.

The model:

First an image or two of the completed model. A view from its front left quadrant shows the overall configuration.

The next shows the view from the rear right quadrant, showing off the engine cluster.

Next, the model broken down into its major subcomponents ...

Next, lets take a close look at how the engine unit is built. Can't quite see how the central section is built ? Oh dear, never mind ... it's pretty easy to work out, honest ;-)

OK, lets start putting it together again. Line 'em up ...

... and stick 'em together !

And finally, back on it's stand:

Here are a couple of piccies to show how the ship fits together in a little more detail (click on each one to get a larger image in a pop-up window)

The first two images show the six pieces that make up the 'spine' of the ship, seperate ...

... and then together.

The last shows the engine unit in more detail.

Comments:

What's it like then ? For the scale, it's a pretty good likeness IMHO; the only obvious omission is the 'escape pods' on the side units, but its hard to see how they could be done in this scale.

It's an excellent example of how 'SNOT' (studs not on top) techniques can be used to great effect; the only real problem in the build is the mounting point for the rear engine unit, which is very weak - the engine unit has a habit of falling off if not handled very carefully.

Overall a great little model & I'm looking forward to the other MINI ships with a great deal of interest !
