LEGO AT-AT - an overview

The latest in my "quick & dirty" pages, this one addresses the new (so new it's officially not out for another couple of months !) AT-AT. [more later]

The box:

The box is a fairly sturdy affair, of the "integrated tray / hinged lid" type, and measures approx 385mm x 572mm x 92mm. Inside are 15 bags of parts and an A4-sized assembly manual (92 pages, portrait orientation, staple-bound).

The minifigs:

The set includes 4 minfigs - a "Luke Skywalker", an AT-AT driver and two Snow Troopers. The "Luke" figure is identical to that provided with the earlier SnowSpeeder set. The other figures are outlined below:

All the Imperials together - advancing towards you ...
All the Imperials together - running away like the chickens they really are ...
Snow Trooper from the front quarter ...
... from the rear quarter ...
... and sans body !

Comments:

My initial impressions are that it's a very good set - they've used some very interesting construction techniques (some are very ISD-like) - but it's a little fragile in places (again, just like the ISD !). It's in scale with itself (if that makes sense), but it is a little on the small size compared to, say, the Snow Speeder.

It's interesting to note that the basic design looks to be quite flexible - there should be ample opportunity for owners to "accurise".

The complaints are pretty trivial - we finally have one of the most highly desired vehicles from the (Lego) SW universe, and Lego have done a fine job with it - it must rank as one of, if not the, best of the System sets.

Peeron has a parts list here.
