25 March 2006 The 5s (A) - Friendly - Lost 2 - 4 (Terry,
Parker?) |
| In
an end of season challenge the 6th took on the 5th.
Rob and Fez came back to help play in this game. Other old 6th
player decided to play for the 5ths. The sun was out and an
enjoyable game was in the offing. The 6th started slowly with a
change side we took a while to gel the new players coming in at the end of
the season Tom, Simon and Shaun gelling with Fez, Rob and Martin. In a
mirror image of Terry’s first game he attacked the goal and was in the
right place to sweep in the first goal. This sent a buzz through the team
who thought a win was definitely on. Half time we knew the game was on at
1-1. The plan was working, I had hoped with our formation we could hold
for a 0-0 at half time. The second half started with an attacking
formation with an attitude win or lose gloriously. Although we were
stronger going forward we let in 2 more. As the 5’s tired and with the
attacking option we had we pulled one back and looked like we could even
get it back to 3-3. With everyone up field Seb put the nail in the coffin
with a great strike beating our keeper Mick Manning who had who had kept
us in the game. Giving an end result of 4-2. Parker did his best to get a
MOM award by playing a spell for both teams but in the end MOM goes to
everyone who had part in the 6th season ….even Kev F. |

18 March 2006 Royston 5s (A) - Friendly - Lost 1 - 2 (Nick) |
| Stevenage
set up to attack and had most of the control of this game and many chances
in the first half but didn't finish them. Even after Royston scored
Stevenage attacked and looked likely to get a goal. A second from Royston
before the break was cruel and due to poor marking. The second half
continued in the same manner but this time the ball fell to Nick who hit a
sweet shot from the top of the D which beat the keeper. Stevenage pushed
hard but a second would not come and the game ended 2:1. MOM: Shaun |

11 March 2006 Letchers 6s (H) - Lost 0 - 3 |
|
In our last league game of the season we
came up with their best attacking performance. Having deliberately
changed to an attacking formation with the intention of taking the game
to Letchworth and scoring more goals than they get against the weakened
defence. We were caught out early on as the players settled into the new
formation. But despite going a goal down we continued to push and
dominated Letchworth for periods of the game looking very likely to get
a goal. There were chances at both ends. Half time only 1-0 down and
feeling like we should be ahead. The second half was mainly Stevenage we
had the better opportunities and were in the oppositions D more than any
other game but just could not get the finish. Letchworth were still a
threat and scored 2 more goals but Stevenage deserved something from the
game. Unfortunately it just didn't come and the game ended 3-0. MOM:
Great performances all round. Dave solid in defence, Shaun, Andrew and
Callum all doing excellently on he wings but two players made some great
passes and helped run the game and set up opportunities so a share of MOM
goes to Nick and Dan.

4 March 2006 Adelaide 4s (A) - Lost 0 - 4 |
|
In our first year we had the honour of
playing the clubs last East league game on grass as all games will be on
Astro next year. Unfortunately the game ended the way of most of our
games this year. We started well with promising attacks, Geoff had a
reverse stick shot cleared off the line, followed by the opposition
getting into the game and getting goal on their first attack. The goal
was a typical grass goal and and education to some of our players as the
ball jumped and bobbled over three of our players sticks before reaching
the goal hanger who slotted it pas Mic. The game was pretty even after
that with Southgate creating more opportunities in our D but Mic was
having a great game and pulling off some good saves. 1-0 at half time
and the team believed there was life in this one but with Michael unable
to play on after an injured foot caused a re-organisation. We were
caught sleeping for the 2nd goal straight after half time but then
pushed on to get level and were open to counters. Stevenage had one of
those days when the ball would not go into the back of the net, except a
hit from Dan on the half way line which got past everyone and went in.
Nick came close with a tip in front of the keeper that went wide of the
post and hit from Geoff which just hit the keeper's shoulder who
knew little of where the ball was going. The game ended 4-0. MOM
was fairly easy this week and was almost decided at half time, although
Andrew put in a great second half coming back well and put in some
telling challenges. But Mic's excellent keeping including 6 short
range reaction saves in a row (even though they scored the 7th attempt)
clearly made him MOM.

25 February 2006 Broxbourne 7s (H) - Lost 0 - 5 |
|
With 8 players required higher up the
club and one injured, getting 11 players on the pitch was an
achievement. Broxbourne are a youthful side who have been playing
for 2 seasons and are where the 6th X1 will be next year. So with 4
players having their 6th team debut, Swifty, Hutch and 2 of whom
were playing their first ever league game. We made a good start and were
holding Broxbourne with some excellent man marking. Broxbourne finally
made a breakthrough when a hit from outside the D got a defection in
front of Taff and lifted and curled out of his diving reach. We
pressed and got some reward but the short corners were blocked and a
goal mouth scramble didn't go our way. Broxbourne got a second before
the half when a miss hit shot was deflected in at the far post. Having
had a good half there was little to say at half time and we came out and
pushed hard and had long periods holding Broxbourne in their own half.
Each of these periods ended with a break out from Broxbourne, with our centre
back (Geoff) getting too involved in the attack our defence
scrambled back but 3 times in vain and the speed of the youngsters left Taff
against 3 on two occasions and it was no surprise they scored. The game
ended 5-0. Stevie took a knock to his ankle and unfortunately this has
been shown to be a break and Stevie is now in plaster cast. From the
team Thank you for your hard work this season and hope you have a swift
recovery. For some excellent passing and lots of hard running MoM
Swifty was a major reason this scratch team can hold their heads up
having had a good performance.

18 February 2006 Royston 4s (H) - Lost 0 - 5 |
| In
a top of the table Vs bottom game Stevenage showed they have some grit and
determination and continued to attack Royston despite the scoreline
getting gradually worse. In the first half we held them off for long
periods and made some attacking efforts of our own. Mic in his second ever
game claimed a lot of balls and is learning all the time. There was some
resolute defending as Geoff stepped in for an absent Hammy. Michael is
continuing his improvement and Jack was getting stuck in, in front of the
back 3. At half time the score was 0:2. We continued to try and play our
game and attacked Royston, rather than shoring up at the back and keeping
the scoreline down. The youngsters once more making good use of the few
opportunities and the midfield partnership of Kev and Nick is gelling. The
final score was 0:5 but for the second week running the second half
performance was a lot stronger with more heart. A lot of positives to come
out of a hard but well played game. As always Royston played the game in
good spirit. One more hard game against Broxbourne at home and then we can
take the fight and the energy to the weaker teams in our division and get
some points before the end of the season. For some superb defensive
tackles and covering my ass when I had wandered too far forward Nigel gets
MOM. |

11 February 2006 Winchmore Hill & Enfields 3s (A) - Lost 2
- 8 (KevF, Geoff) |
| Having
met the home side previously we knew we were going to be in for a hard
game. The boys started slowly and were under the cosh as a reaction from
their good start. The new defensive set up took a while to gel with a new
(not player for a few years) defender and a new (it seemed like a good
idea, on Friday night after a few pints, thought I have never player
before) Goal keeper. As before Winchmore’s passing and movement on and
off the ball was excellent and we had trouble getting an attack going due
to their interceptions. It was not a rough game but the ball was lifting
with knees and shins getting hit with the ball and two players banging
heads as both ran at each other 100% committed for a ball (Nick’s head
was harder). We did put some moves together but spent a lot of the time
defending. Good quick passing appeared to give Winchmore Hill and Enfield
an extra player and goals were easily created. Our new Goalkeeper Mic was
getting a lot of practice and came out well to smother the ball but often
could do nothing as they had two un-marked player’s in front of goal. So
at half time it was 5-0 with the game over. Second half, with a formation
change and a desire to at least win the second half we came out strongly
and held their opposition. As we pushed forward and created promising
attacks and held the ball in their end of the field they manage to find a
pass that took out the midfield and we got hit on the counter 3 times.
Winchmore Hill and Enfield then attacked and once more the ball lifted and
caught Hammy square on the Kneecap, after time for recovery he left the
field of play causing yet another formation change. In the last 15 minutes
of play our attacks told and we finally were fully equal. A ball played
through the middle found KevF who rounded the goalkeeper and slotted it
home for a well deserved consolation goal, with minutes remaining a short
corner was given allowing Geoff to thump home his second one in two weeks,
giving a second half performance of 3-2 and was well deserved. So the
final score of 8-2 was fair but the second half performance showed what
grit and determination this team has. To Man of the match, Fantastic
debuts for Simon and especially Mic in Goal. Stevie worked really hard,
Shaun as always was very useful at this level and Mike who made some good
blocks. Due to the changes one player played all over in 3 or 4 different
position and although he likes attacking Filled in as right back when
Hammy went off and did a sterling job against their left wing and got the
better of him. So MOM goes to Callum. |
| Sat
4 February 2006 Hertford 4s (H) - Drew 1 - 1 |
| A
bottom of the table clash brought about a very interesting encounter as
both teams were evenly matched. We started at a pace were on top of the
opening exchanges but Hertford came back into the half. Both teams have a
couple of short corners well defended, Geoff came close, one shaved the
outside of the post. A free hit was given in our 25 it was quickly taken
and caught us asleep. It was a simple hit to an unmarked player at the top
of the D where it was swept into the left-hand corner, just past the
diving keeper. Showing just how easy this game is and how quickly things
can change around.
At half time we were perked up and made
to realise just how much into this game we were and that it was ours to
take. We came out hard and started to put a few passes together, finding
it easier to move through the Hertford team. Hertford were equally
determined to hold on to their lead and extend it. Swifty in goal for the
first time in a year made some good saves and marshalled the defence well
who were working as a unit. The ball was moving on both wings and Nick was
playing some lovely 1-2’s in the middle as players came on through. The
passing in the team felt like it was starting to come together and is very
encouraging for the future. A break down the right led to Geoff getting in
the D and winning a short corner. The ball came out hard and this time for
the first time in weeks Geoff got the ball on target slightly lifted and
it made that wonderful noise as it pilled into the backboard.
From there Stevenage took control
although Hertford still managed the odd attack. Stevenage were looking
strong and the next venture into the D resulted in a good save from their
keeper. A Hertford attack called on Swifty to come and claim the ball, his
kick lifted off a Hertford stick (which thankfully took a lot of the power
out) and felled Jack. After an Ice pack and a check over he was helped to
the side and watched the rest of the game. (Saturday evening he was at
home feeling fine but being carefully watched). The resulting short! was
well defended and the rest of the game was played out with no more serious
efforts as both teams tired and Fez’s thoughts turned to rugby! Having
drawn the game we kept Hertford on the bottom and are 3 points clear of
them.
Lots of commendable performances, Swifty
in goal, the whole defence and Nick and Dan in the middle: but MoM goes to
Tone who was solid at the back and made some great passes down the right
and even getting up the pitch to help out. MOM: Tone |

28 January 2006 Royston 5s (H) - Friendly - Lost 0 - 3 |
| A
very even game played in the best of spirit and thoroughly enjoyed by all
players on both sides. The 6th had 2 new players, one very
experienced, Tone, and one less so in Adam. The team looked good but lost
its shape occasionally. We had more ball in the first half but got stung
by a goal from Royston, leading to being 1-0 down at the break. The second
half was much like the first and we looked certain to make a break through
but then Royston got awarded a short which lead to a goal on the second
attempt. As we pushed on Royston were a threat on the counter and got a 3rd
to seal the result. An entertaining game of end to end hockey that was
much closer than the result indicated. MOM difficult again this week no
one stood out for doing something exceptional and yet no one ruled
themselves out by having a bad game. Adam’s inability to stay on his
feet, Callum for plugging away in a position that was not his usual and
Nigel for once again stepping into the keepers role all deserve mention.
On his first full start and second for the club Mom goes to Dan Phoenix
who is giving us width and speed on both wings. MoM: Dan |

21 January 2006 Letchworth 6s (H) - WON 3 - 1 |
|
Following on from last week's
display the team got shuffled and then shuffled some more as Geoff and
Fez decided they wouldn't last the match. Jack came in to sweep in front
of the back 3, this gives his the freedom he takes in other positions
where there isn't the freedom. After a good debut up front I tried Nick
in the middle, Martin came in on the left Fez played a
"stationary" role on the right and Geoff played behind the
front 2 and rotated off. For once all of my ideas seemed to work and the
team looked great and after a bit a moan about getting stuck in and
winning the ball, Stevenage came out hard and put the pressure on
Letchworth, this soon resulted in a short, Geoff deferred the hit to
Martin, at the short pass out/tight angle. Martin hit the ball well and
was probably going to beat the keeper but a Letchworth defender got a
stick in the way to help it past his own keeper. Letchworth came back
hard but we were a match for them, their best chances coming from shorts
as our defence smothered their attacks. Martin scored a second followed
by a Letchworth goal I think from a short just before half time. In the
second half tiredness crept in and we held our own and were still in
control, Callum, Chris and Geoff had shots on target but we couldn't get
that elusive 3rd goal to settle us down then towards the end I banged a
cross in from the right, it missed every one apart from Martin who went
to push it in hard but topped the ball this slower ball confused the
keeper who missed the ball and it trickled over the goal line, Martin
who had fallen down and was half way to cursing for getting such a poor
contact celebrated his second Hatrick for SHC. Excellent performances
all round, commendation to Nick in his second game, the whole defence,
Jack, Nigel, Ian, Michael and Kevin in goal but of course MOM goes to
the Hatrick player Martin

14 January 2006 Adelaide (H) - Lost 0 - 6 |
|
The first game for the 6th X1 post
Christmas and a visit from a beatable team. We had put up a good game on
grass at theirs and got a draw out of them now on astro we should have
the advantage, however there team was not the one we met on grass and
the 6th X1 were not up to speed. From the sidelines Geoff tried to shout
encouragement but had to get Gill to do it for him. SA were more up for
the game and won all the 50:50 balls, the team looked unbalanced and
positions were not being held. Nick had a promising debut.
So with 3 let in each half some down to
exceedingly good skill from their centre player that was the end of
that. Hard to call a MOM after a disappointing display, Nigel did great
stepping in as keeper but did let some in Hammy did his usual great job
but MOM goes to Fez - who did the least wrong.

10 December 2005 Broxbourne 6s (A) - Lost 0 - 6 |
Stevenage
were buoyant following a great performance the previous week.
Having held Broxbourne to a late 1-0 defeat in the reverse of this fixture
again the team were thinking a league win was on the cards. However we
were
dominated for the first 10 minutes due to the skill in the middle of
Broxbourne's attack. Stevenage then came back into the game and started
making attacks, forcing the game back to the opposition. Rob Parker laid a
lovely weighted ball on for Callum which led to some great passing and
movement from Stevange . Broxbourne finally made an attempt pay when Ian
came and cleared yet another ball, Broxbourne recycled the ball quickly
and
the attack moved into the space vacated by Ian. The defence failed to
close
the player down giving him time for a well placed lifted hit to beat our
keeper for the first time. After half time Stevenage attacked hard and
fast
but Broxbourne came back strong and Stevenage had no answer. Broxbourne
scored 5 goals aided by some mistakes in defence and one goal deflected off
Geoff's foot. Broxbourne were the stronger side but the large scoreline
didn't reflect the game. Jack in goal made some great saves and when he
was
beaten it was often due to the defence or the afore mentioned foot. MOM
goes
to Hammy for some great defending in a game where we were constantly
under pressure. |
| Sat
3 December 2005 Royston 4s (A) - Lost 0 - 3 |
A
clash between the top and bottom of the division resulted in a much closer
game than Royston expected. From the off Royston found themselves under
attack in an even opening session. The team started to gel, all players
were
marked out, simple passes move the ball up the pitch. From a short corner
Royston got their opener just before half time squeezing it inside the
left
post. At half time there was talk of this being our best performance yet
and
that the game was still on. We attacked them hard at the start of the
second
and put them back in their place. They had the better players controlling
the midfield but we would break down the wings. From another Royston
short,
Geoff ran 1 and got the ball off the striker, with a rush a blood to the
head he took off up the pitch beating 5 players and finding himself at the
top of the opponents D struck his shot just wide, hitting the outside of
the
side board. While Geoff calmed down and tried to get some air into his
lungs, Royston attacked and the player Geoff had marked out for the whole
game scored a very good lifted shot to beat Jack for their second goal.
Once
again Stevenage did not let their heads go down and did the basics
extremely
well. Royston's rolling subs gave them the edge over Stevenage's 11 hard
working players. With lungs burning the midfield could not make it back
and
the defence were overwhelmed for the first time in the game and Royston
got
a third. A fine performance from the team which will result in a victories
against lesser opponents. Man of the match was difficulty again and
honourable mentions go to the whole team but especially Jack
having
his first game for the 6th and making some great saves, Terry, Kev, Stevie
and Fez who ran themselves into the ground, Chris and Callum up front
causing a nuisance and some sturdy defending at the back but MOM goes to
Michael who has a busy afternoon at leftback with Royston attacking
down their right. Many attacks were halted with some strong challenges
from
Mike. |

26 November 2005 Winchmore Hill & Enfields 3s (H) - Lost
1 - 4 (Fez) |
Having
been thrashed 9:0 last time the teams met the last thing the 6th X1
needed was to be short for the game, but due to football matches, a broken
finger, a sick player, Geoff's inability to count and the 5's needing a
player, That what happened and we had to play with 10 men. Despite this
Stevenage took the lead with a fine finish from Fez latching onto a cross
field pass from Tom. However Winchmore Hill hit back with 3 quick
goals as Stevenage struggled to cope with the numbers in attack and Geoff
was resistant to change a formation which had yielded a goal. A change to
the formation had their players marked out and an enjoyable midfield
battled
occurred with chances at both end. Laurie playing stand in keeper made
some
excellent saves, Chris and Stevie both got shots off on target. So the
game
stayed until a late break away goal for Winchmore gave them a 4: 1 result.
MOM was difficult because everyone stepped up to make up for the missing
player but, despite not always having the legs to track back Stevie H gets
MOM for trying hard and putting up with me shouting at him.

19 November 2005 Hertford 4s (A) - Lost 0 - 5 |
|
In the first half Stevenage were not in
the game it seemed the cold had got to everyone and there was no desire
to win and so were never first to the ball. the loss of two goals early
on sapped any remaining spirit. Geoff's substitution plan succeeded in
complicating things and despite battling were lucky to only be
3 down at the break. After a stern team talk the second half was much
improved and Stevenage were much more in the game to the annoyance of
Hertford's players. In the second half Hertford had two breaks and got
two goals which didn't reflect the balance in the second half. Second
half much better but we must get stuck into players and not give them
time on the ball. MOM Kevin and Callum who were two players who were
still battling for every ball despite the cold and the score line.

12 November 2005 Royston 5s (H) - Won 3 - 1(Rob, Pete,
Terry) [Friendly] |
An historic day. This was the first ever
outing of a Royston 5th X1 team but that was eclipsed by SHCM6 getting
their first goals and first win. The game started at pace in the morning
sun. Stevenage carved some good chances and made good
interceptions, but just could not find the finishing touch and Royston's
attacks were broken down by some great defending, This week Ian was
joined by Callum and Michael. Stevenage's new keeper Lee rarely
getting troubled, even have enough time to stop a ball that was heading
our and try to dribble it and pass it to the right back. 0-0 at half
time brought back memories of the last 3 games were we could have won
but didn't get all we deserved.
Then it happened the ball was driven
into the D from the 25 by Pete who slipped back for Geoff to sweep it to
the back post where Rob was standing to dink it past the fallen keeper
(JP). Rob was so shocked he forgot to celebrate until Geoff
congratulated him. With the 6th team getting their first ever goal the
flood gates opened and Stevenage attacked with Pete getting the second
and with a fantastic finish in only his second game Terry scored the
third (I hope he keeps up this scoring average). The effort of all the
attacks took its toll and with the midfield finding it hard to get back
Royston were allowed back into the game and tested the keeper who had a
magnificent triple save. Eventually they did get one goal past our
defence. But the win had been secured.
MoM was very difficult this week there
were some excellent performances. Hammy and Fez giving me what they
always do. Callum doing a great job after a nervous start having been
asked to play right back. Terry's fantastic finish, Pete controlling the
attacks and helping the younger lads up front, and Lee's debut in goal.
But I can not overlook the scorer of the historic first ever goal for
SHCM6 and with all the time and effort he has spent supporting his kids
and therefore the club, it was most fitting that Rob got the goal and
that Dan was on the sidelines watching. And so that's why he gets the
MoM.

5 November 2005 Letchworth 6s (H) - Lost 0 - 1 |
|
Another change to the formation brought
Kev into centre mid for his second only game and Fez on to the right mid
slot. Stevenage started slowly but battled to keep things level as
the ball got passed more and the game opened there were more chances but both
teams were kept at bay by strong defences. Lecthworth just had the
better game and better chances in the first half with Mouldy making
some cracking saves from a few of their short corners. In the second
half the defensive line with help from midfield kept the opposition at
bay the only chances they got were short corners and John saved the ones
Geoff didn't block. The this base the Midfield of Michael, Kev and Fez
put in lots of work allowing the youngsters to terrorise their
defence. When the midfield got involved our first goal looked sure to
come with some very close chances. However with less than 5 to go they
finally got a short that got past Mouldy, Stevenage piled it on in
the last five but couldn't get the goal and nearly got hit on the break.
Another highly enjoyable, very close game played in the right spirit
that could have gone to either team. The team is getting stronger and
playing as we are a win is round the corner. With some excellent strong
defending and a good team performance Man of the match goes to Jack.

29 October 2005 Adelaide 4s (A)
Drew 0 - 0 |
|
Another day, another game, another great
performance. Two debutantes this week, Terry played an excellent game at
left mid and a debut in goal for Loz. With a long wet grass pitch the
game was a new experience for the majority of the team. Stevenage were
on the attack early on but Southgate's experience on the surface showed
and they pushed on forward and won several short corners. All were well
defended and we came back into the game before the half. The second half
was much more even and Stevenage had the better chances and could have
snuck the win, but a draw was a fair result and the 6th X1 first
point from match play. MOM went to Loz for a fantastic debut in goal,
despite not having a great deal to do, what he did was well done and
gave us our first clean sheet of the season.

22 October 2005 Broxbourne 7s (H)
Lost 0 - 1 |
|
Stevenage took off from where left the
last game, Improving all the way. By last years form Broxbourne should
be the best team in the league, and they showed it with a good mix
of ages including some talented youngsters. Stevenage held off attack
after attack, the defence and midfield working hard. Both teams went
into half time already looking as if they had played the full game. At
the start of the second half Stevie slipped the ball past an opposition
before finding Shuan (back from injury) who found Rob who drove the ball
down the wing (one handed) with a monstrous cross Kev on his debut
came in with an angled stick and low sweep lifted the ball goalwards
only to see it curve past the post. Encouraged by this the second half
display was more even but Broxboure were still having the better chances
including a sweep by Nigel that Taff had to save and a P flick that Taff
save superbly. With less than 5 minutes to go an optimism would get a
draw, a short corner finally lead to Broxbourne mis-hitting and
bumbling the ball over the goal line. Another defeat but a great
improvement in team play and taking the battle to the opposition. Very
hard to choose a Man of the match, Fez was fantastic in sweeping and
somehow kept running till the end, Shaun had a another great game. TAff
was great in Goal and all the youngsters played their part, however for
a first ever game and good positional play which lead to being in
the right place to nearly get a goal MOM goes to Kev

15 October 2005 Royston 4s (H)
Lost 0 - 4 |
This
was a spirited performance from the newest team. The young
players, Stevie, Chris, Dan and Jack were
particularly impressive: they kept running and tackling and helped put
together some good movements. Despite playing against much
more experienced opponents they were not daunted ane were eager to get
close in and not give the Royston men room to play. We lack
real finishers but, despite the scoreline, were not overwhelmed and made
Royston work hard for their goals. Of the adults, the tyro Rob
Parker continues to progress well. This week we were without
Captain Trew but strengthened by J-P and Steve in midfield, Tom
Wheeler and Ryall at the back, all doubling up from the 4s, and
Taff Jones in goal. It was particularly good to have Fez back
who harried the oppo like hell!
We have the makings of a good team here, and despite losing, morale is
good |

8 October 2005 Winchmore Hill 4s (A)
Lost 0 - 9 |
|
With a team pulled together during breaks
of a Chemical Engineering course and writing a best man's speech it was
not surprising I arrived back in Stevenage 2 hours before meet time
to find the Goal keeping kit was not where I had been told it was and
the person I was hoping to play in goal was unavailable. But we got it
sorted and took a squad of 12 players to play the other newly
entered team in Div 9SW. They are a very solid vets team who know how to
play the game well despite not having as much pace as our Juniors. As we
were settling into the game they quickly put he pressure on and got a
few goals off early we solidified and came more into the game in he half
but got caught twice more leaving us 4 goals down at half time. Bringing
Shaun into central mid to hold up the game gave us someone to work
around but this gave us all the inexperience up front, And mine and
Shaun's legs tiered we got hit on the break repeatedly either resulting
in outstanding stout defending from Hammy, a ping off the metal work , a
save and clearance from Nigel (once again stepping into the goal keeping
slot) or a Goal. Despite shipping 5 goals in the second half there
were also a great deal of positives, the youngsters linking up well with
a cracking cross from Dan A, great positional work from Stevie and Calum
and some nice passing and stick work from Chris, our work definitely
deserved at a least a few gaols but it was one of those days. Despite
the score line everyone one worked hard till the final whistle and there
is a great deal of positives to take from the game. This team are going
to be very strong in our league and we have 2 more chances to show them
a harder game. 2 outstanding players this week Ian Hamilton as Center
back saved us on multiple occasions and Shaun In his first game back
after injury and holiday working very hard and so he just gets

Hertford 4s (H) Lost 0- 1 - But took 3
points |

The team for the first men's 6th 11 game
was shaping up nicely, and then came the news that Hertford were pulling
out as they did not have the players or Goal keepers. They did manage to
gather enough players for a friendly if we could supply a keeper.
So honourable mentions go to John Mould and Nigel Hall for playing
keeper for the two teams. The squad was mainly new and young. The
first half went very well, the players keeping to a formation of sorts
and the youngsters fitting in well and not being intimidated by playing
in an adults league. Chris, Stevie, Callum and Dan all played well as did
as slightly older new players Rob and Fez. The team was solidified by
Geoff, Martin Ian and James Hamilton. Having held them to 0-0
ad looked the stronger side, despite not getting too many shots on
target Geoff decide to change everything around and try people out in
new positions. This evened the game out but helped with seeing players
in other positions. They pushed another player up front and eventually
the pressure told and they got a goal, Nigel made and excellent stop but
the ball spun back under his foot, while he was working out where it was
they pounced and knocked it home. We pushed on and attacked and put some
nice moves together testing mouldy a few times. A great start to the
season with the awarded 3 points and a great, good spirited friendly to
start the season with a lot of positives to be taken and a lot of
promise in this new squad. MOM was a hard call as every one worked hard
and played well but Fez's energy which lasted till the end impressed me.........
