Eeee - Skeggy, it's bracing this time of year!
Well, the weather wasn't particularly receptive on the day we arrived (read freezing), but the welcome was warm and the accomodation was great. As for the food, where do you start? Well, if you're Carl, it's some of everything and then some more - the chef must have been suffering from some form of portion amnesia, he just didn't know when to stop!
Saturday afternoon was a tad on the cold side with a bitter easterly wind blowing in from the sea. The course was in pretty good condition (greens a bit bobbly), and very challenging - I lost 5 balls on the first day! Finishing at about 7.30 pm, we didn't have the inclination (or the energy) to explore the bright lights of Skeggy, so drinks, then half of every farm animal (bar horse) you could think of, followed by a further generous dowsing of the east coast's finest ales (well, John Smiths mainly) and some serious 'BIG MONEY' card schools.
Welcome to the world of 'Chase the Ace', Brag (sorry, not talking about you Blakey here on this occasion) and Pontoon. In the Chase the Ace and Pontoon school, Pete Clay almost lost his shirt (and his head - see photos), but managed to recoup all of his life savings eventually, all £1.40p of them. Over on the big boys table (the 'Brag'gards school), serious money and hard stares were being exchanged. Tommy, Daley, Dick W and Martin Mc were at it until the small hours (ladies if you do ever read this site I AM talking about CARDS), retiring at about 2.00 am.
Next morning we tee'd off with the big breakfast (with Nodder taking three [breakfasts] off the tee!). Aaron and Nick finally got up at 10.00am, only to find that their dad had had their breakfasts in their absence ...
Monday's golf started with a bit of rain, and then developed into a great morning and afternoon with plenty of sunshine - a real contrast to the Sunday. I only managed to lose one ball this time. The par three's were particularly challenging (that's where I lost 3 balls) ...

In summary - a great weekend, shame it didn't last longer. Many thanks to Martin for finding the venue and organsing the weekend (yet again!), cheers Martin from us all.
I'm looking for aniother venue for September - 1 night away again (Sunday seems the best value , and there's not much available for a Saturday night away anyway). Will let you know asap.
Cheers
Barrie
