        The Quiet Sky

Stillness entered the garden

At twilight and stayed as

Another welcomed guest.

Cats circulated high tailed.

Mars hung in the quiet sky.

                         Blood and Mars;

       Iron and Oxygen.

Brightest object in the sky

The Red Planet pulled our gaze.

60,000 years had passed.

Who among Stone Age Man had

Looked upon the planet close before?

Mars hung in the quiet sky.

Had he dreamt of a future? Of

Manicured lawns and barbeques,

Double-glazed windows, stone

Paved floors? High flying planes

Scoring the sky with sound?

When had man learned to dream?

Stillness entered the garden

At twilight, and stayed as

Another welcomed guest.

Mars hung in the quiet sky.
