             Fishing

He casts.

A line of silver light arches:

Drifts to where the slow river pools

Loop and swirl while a Kingfisher

Perches on a low branch and watches.

The quiet splash, almost lazy.

The whirring whine of the Hardy reel.

The tug on the line; the weight of the trout.

The Brown Trout.

The rod bows as the fish runs.

The whirring whine: he lowers the tip.

The slack is reeled in; he lifts the rod. The rod bows:

The weight of the trout, the Brown Trout.

The landing net to land the trout.

The six pound trout.

The quiet splash, almost lazy, as he lets it go.

The trout.

The six pound Brown Trout.

He casts.

A line of silver light arches:

Drifts to where the slow river pools

Loop and swirl while a Kingfisher

Perches on a low branch and watches.
