Southbourne/Bournemouth Surf Life Saving Unit (AKA Southbourne Surf Lifesaving) was founded in 1986. In the early years there were a few members doing a lot of work. Since then the club has expanded massively (especially in the Junior & Nipper sections) but although there are a lot more people available to do the work we have a lot more work to do!

In 1996 the Nipper section was formed.

In 1998 we were given a lottery grant to purchase a rescue boat which is still in use.

In 2001 we moved from our Fisherman's Walk base to Southbourne when the RNLI Beach rescue project started.

All new members are welcome, you don't have to be a good swimmer to join, just enthusiastic.

Membership is split into 3 age groups

Nippers - 7 to 12 year olds (Nippers have their own web page <click>)

Youth - 12 to 18 year olds

Senior - over 18 years of age

Note:- as a registered charity only those over the age of 18 can vote.
