The
main database contains almost 5,000 Quine
records and to date I have
published around 4,000 records up to the
year 1830.
Some selections are large files and may take time to open, each
selection will open in a new window.
I
have created this database to aid my own research, which would not have been possible without the assistance of
other people sharing their infomation by publication on the web.
Because the information is in one database, it is sometimes possible to identify the probable family groups
from around 1730, when listings are sorted by the mothers maiden name. This
is the 'born by parent' option on the side menu.
Records on this site are mostly before 1850. I plan to continue
adding information by concentrating on research before the mid 19th
century, as census records can provide accurate information for the
later time periods.
If anyone can provide any information for the period pre 1800, this
would be appreciated. If you have any family information no matter
how small please comtact me with details. I may also be able to help
with your research as my main (non web) database contains
additional unpublished information on some individuals.
The name is first recorded in Mann in 1403 when Luke MacQuyn was
granted certain educational endowments. In land records from the
early 1500’s, the name is spread thinly over the south and west of
the Island. MacQuyn and MacQuyne are found in Arbory, Castletown,
Santon, Marown (West Baldwin), Braddan (including Ballaquine, West
Baldwin), German and Michael. Donald MacQuene held land in the Treen
of Camlork in Braddan, and half a chamber (storehouse) in Douglas.
The Isle of Man has 17 parishes: Andreas, Arbory, Ballaugh, Braddan,
Bride, Conchan (now commonly known as Onchan), German, Jurby,
Lezayre, Lonan, Malew, Marown, Maughold, Michael, Patrick, Rushen
and Santan.
