The Diary of a Shed build

I needed somewhere (away from the kitchen) to twiddle with my bits, so I set about (trying) to build a shed. Having no experience & no help I decided to ask a local shed builder who accused me of wanting to steal his designs. With this, I cleared off and set about a real bit of DIY!
June 30th 2004
Bricks laid (almost level)

July 2nd 2004
Frame for base done.(almost square)

July 3rd 2004
Shed floor done.

July 21st 2004
Some of the frame work for the front sides and back

July 21st 2004
Seven roof trusses made from 3 X 2 with a 2 X 2 support piece in the middle.

July 26th 2004
The back was put to the framework from 3 sheets of 8' X 4' OSB with one sheet trimmed to fit the frame size. I used two pieces of 2 X 1 batten fixed down the joints for extra weather proofing
July 27th 2004
Made a load of support brackets for the trusses out of the spare OSB for extra strength.

September 4th 2004
Started putting the weatherboard on.

September 4th 2004
Trying to keep the weatherboard level across the three places was a wee bit tricky.
September 4th 2004
But I got there in the end.

September 4th 2004
Took 'til lunchtime and I was baked to a crisp.
Just have the window frame and door to make, as well as the two sides.
September 21st 2004
Started putting the weatherboard on the sides and treating it.

September 24th 2004
Started putting the roof trusses on the shed sides, then the weatherboard.
September 24th 2004
Once the weatherboard was on I trimmed off the overlap.

September 24th 2004
Treated and finished. One side ready for going up.
October 3rd 2004
Treated and finished the other side

October 3rd 2004
Five 8' X 4' sheets of 12mm OSB board. 3 cut to size for the roof.
October 3rd 2004
Put the back on, the sides and the front. The five roof trusses are spaced out and secured from end to end by a couple of lengths of batten as well as being fixed to the sides.

October 3rd 2004
Getting the roof on was more than a bit tricky, especially the 8 X 4 sheets. Losing light didn't help much either. I managed to get most of it finished and covered until I get the roof felt on.
October 3rd 2004
Here's how the trusses look from inside. By using 3 X 2 they were safe to stand on while putting the roof on.

October 7th 2004
Started making the window frame today. Firstly tidied up the edges of weatherboard.
October 7th 2004
Got some 19 X 67 PAR and made the surround and nailed it to she shed frame.

October 7th 2004
Then I took some 44 X 44 PAR and made a cross piece made with a join I don't the name of and slotted it in place and nailed it to the shed frame.

All I need to do is fix in the glass slip and glass.

October 11th 2004
Picked up a load of Glass slip 20 X 12 & attempted to cut it to fit the frame. I eventually got the outside done after much gnashing of teeth and the obligitory shout of "Feck It"! Cured by a good supply of tea by Mrs Bilko.
October 11th 2004
Then, after having to go out and buy some more Glass slip because I lost so much earlier from messing up the cutting. I cut all the pieces for the frame inside and then fitted the four panes of glass. Had to be careful putting in the nails.

October 11th 2004
The finished window.
After all the messing about not getting the cutting right I'll settle for what I got.

October 14th 2004
Putting the roof felt on. Again, never did it before and as simple as it seemed...
October 14th 2004
...I made a few mistakes.

October 14th 2004
Second layer of felt went on, then I forgot I hadn't tacked down the first layer on the top edge, so there's a few creases.

October 15th 2004
Made the two doors from 2 X 2.
October 15th 2004
Added weatherboard to the doors.

October 16th 2004
The roof felt is on, I just need to tidy the edges with some wood.
The doors complete and hung. Locks and coach bolts are last on the list.
