Jim Holmes, formerly of goth industrial metal punks Tetsubo, has resumed solo activities as The Aborted.
The Aborted was my old solo project before joining Tetsubo... the new material sees a return to my first love of skewed electronics, warped melodies and found sounds, but bringing with it some sounds and discipline picked up from working with Tetsubo. The acquisition of new computer technology means I no longer have to muck about with grotty old tapes, and can now deliver a far superior quality product.
The Aborted is 10 years old… good grief!
Jim Holmes aka The Aborted was always in awe of Leicester’s 80’s New Wave scene that brought us New Age, Future Toys and The Deep Freeze Mice, but it wasn’t until people he actually knew came along like Rev Head and Urban Surfers that he picked up his first bass guitar in the early 90’s. With these and other influences like Severed Heads and The Residents, he formed the shambolic avant-garde duo Jesus Head with old school friend Gordon McKinnon. Too much alcohol, not enough talent and only one instrument doomed the project to failure. Jim acquired more equipment and honed his act over further cassettes, produced by sound-on-sound (superimposing each part over previously recorded parts) for want of multitracking. Following a brief reformation of Jesus Head, he was asked to join local goth industrial metal punk band Tetsubo on the strength of owning a bass guitar. After 3 years of recording with Tetsubo, Jim finally has the inclination to take this music thing seriously. With the acquisition of computerised multitracking, CD burning and the power of the internet, here are the first fruits of Jim’s long aborted career.
