Printed below is a
photograph of Bernard's maternal grandparents, with one of
their grandsons; in fact with Bernard!
The photograph is not dated but I would think the most likely
year to
be 1947.
The photograph is taken in the front garden of 3 Heaton Road,
Brockhurst,
Gosport, Hampshire.
My grandfather was Charles Clarke, and my grandmother Florence
Ethel
Clarke (nee Putman).
Charles Clarke died in 1962, and Florence Putman in
1960
In all they had 10 Children, who were , in order:
Florrie, Charlie (who died in infancy aged 4), Gladys, George, Doris,
Twins Mabel and Charlie, Edna ( my mother), Irene (who died in infancy
aged 4) and Ron.
My mother has a clear recollection of Irene. She died of was
was
described pneumonia. However Mum says she became ill the day
after consuming a large amount of peanuts, and died within 3 days. The
diagnosis of pneumonia may have masked the true reason for death.
My mother and her mother also ate peanuts at the same time as Irene.
