The work of modern
painter James Whitaker is concerned with the primal aspects
of life, manifesting physical, sexual and emotional contradictions between
male and female interactions. These contrasts
are symbolised in the form of architectural and spatial arrangements to
represent the 'hard', in binary opposition to fabric and drape components,
which represent the 'soft'. These conflicting concepts merge, thus producing
a facade of disguise and ambiguity. Click on the representations shown

Jacqueline du Pre
In a recent collaboration with
Lucy Mayling, James Whitaker chose Jacqueline du Pre as the subject of
his work. Her immense talent and passion whilst battling with Multiple
Sclerosis inspired these deeply emotional works. Both feel strong empathy
for her struggle from their own difficulties in life, and together they
make strong partnership of inspiration and interaction. The main image
is intended to be suspended and illuminated to be viewed from both sides,
whilst further paintings on canvas and mixed media pieces are displayed
around.
