DUNKANOS UPDATE – JULY 2008

August 2007 I took a tent to the Lake District spent 8 days travelling on foot and came back with a beard. Towards the end of the year began making performance art. This year more performances, more drawings. Almost no music. Almost finished writing my book “Ecstatic Notebook”, at one point seemed to be within 3 or 4 weeks of completion but got sidetracked again. Three Young Mountains books published this year, and a hardback one on Cranach in the works. Moved house and got a little lazy for a while but last night performed a new piece “Petal Pool” covered myself in soap and soil and now my skin smells and feels good and I feel revitalised and less lazy; so I get around finally to writing the sanguine arts site update and now get on with my work…

Dunkanos Update 14-03-06

I think I can write good now, but still unable to find publishers so in November started my own publishing house YOUNG MOUNTAINS. "Bone Moon" came out in December, "The Liberation of the Bones" in January, "The Sun Shone Hotly and I Wanted to Burrow in the Drift! coming April, and collaborative projects "Bone Revererie" and You Mangled Your Talons" on their way soon. This week finished a piece "Bone Armada" hopefully for a magazine.

Musically there's been 20 SAMNERIC albums since last update. My medieval consort SEA BURIALS lurches perpetually on cusp of existence/non-existence. Forthcoming appearance on Encaustic/4th Harmonic Records compilation is spurring small resurgence of solo music as NEW LOW. Also completed "Berryman's Sonnets" project, limited edition 5 copies, 4 x C90 boxset at the start of this year.

Intense and Meaningful artistic discoveries in the past year: phil elverum & jack smith. Lots learned there. Guston, Bataille & Céline in the year before that & P. McCarthy as always. Got more interested in mountains & swimming outdoors. Lots of coffee, not enough cigars. Bought a dartboard. Looking forward to next two years.

produced by benjamin_sanguine, running time approx. 60mins. Composed over 8 years and recorded in 70 minutes on 02/04/03, packaged in handmade sleeves.

2 and a half tapes of JOHN BERRYMAN'S SONNETS, one third of the 117 poems having now been put to music and recorded.

Writing of a number of essays, plus a painting of a slope of grass.
