Benjamin Whitaker creates photographic images and short films using
traditional equipment but also increasingly employing digital technology.
Photography
Some examples of his images can be found below with most recent work first.
Photos can also be found on Flickr. In 2007 the photo 'Hidden Horniman' (2006) was used for the Young Mountains
Publication Nada Para El Pueblo, following on from the two photos entitled
'Young Mountain' (2006) and 'Scaffold' (2006) used in its YM predecessor
Niente Per La Gente. Contact Young Mountains here
for copies.
Film
His early film work involved video and super8 including collaged
observations and a staged birthday scene. Between 2001 and 2002 Benjamin
worked on a feature-length film script with Jonathan Earl, which to date remains
unfinished. Recently Benjamin has been producing short burst of film using
digital cameras. Without plot or narrative, these are akin to some of his
photography in that they capture visions and experiences, but with the
added elements of time, movement and sound. Some examples can be found
here. In 2008 Benjamin's film Ultra Radio was screened at Tate Modern as part of Tate Shorts.
