Titheable Lands in Waltham Abbey,
Holyfield and Upshire, 1776
A transcription of an
extensive survey of "titheable lands" made in 1776, which contains much the
same information as the Tithe Returns themselves, but made about two generations
earlier. Many comparisons can be made between this and Millennium Project 1.
Includes a map of the manor of
Waltham Holy Cross spread over 8 A3 sheets, unbound so that they can be
laid out on a desk.
Also included is the essay A Glimpse at Life from 18th Century
sources (very useful for modern researchers), and several appendices.
The complete "Account"
(comparable to the tithe 'awards') is included, with a key to the map's plot
numbers.
