Farewell to Victoria Hall
Our lectures were for many years held at the Victoria Hall in Greenyard,
until last December when we finally said goodbye to a dear
creaky old friend.
Victoria Hall is a timber hall covered in corrugated iron,
erected in 1906 and donated to the parish by John Bentley, a well-known local
builder and benefactor whose name also appears on the foundation stone of the
Town Hall. The hall's future is uncertain, but the structure is in a bad way and
would be very expensive to restore.

Many local groups loved Victoria Hall to bits - literally!
Our December 2008 meeting (above) was the last public event ever to be held
there. The turnout was very good bearing in mind the bitterly cold evening - and
the disconnection of the hall's gas heating a few months earlier!
