The Junior Section is for Boys in years 4, 5 and 6 at Primary School. Boys usually come up to junior's from the Anchor Boy Section, or are brought along by existing members who encourage their friends to join.

The Boys have a lively challenging program of weekly activities, including lots of trips out and about and an annual weekend camp. The Officer in charge (OIC) of our Junior Section is currently Sara Purbrick.

Each Boy wears a Junior Section uniform. This comprises a royal blue BB sweatshirt, a blue BB polo shirt, (both which  can be purchased from the Company Captain) and dark school trousers and shoes. Boys are awarded points each week for their smart appearance.

Boys are split into squads. This helps with team building and is a quick way for new Boys to  make friends. In the early weeks of a new Boy joining, he will learn about the history of The Boys' Brigade, recite from memory the Object of The Boys' Brigade, be taught basic drill steps and enjoy team games and outside activities. On completion he will be presented with his Target badge.

The Boys work towards badges within an award scheme. There are distinct areas and each week, each Boy will have a badge class in one of these areas - community, creativity, spirit, body or mind.

Community Badgework
Boys explore their place within their community. They learn about conservation issues, life skills, poverty, the children's' charter, skills for road crossing, map reading, using a phonebook to find information and explore equality, race and healthy eating. This class is taught in a gentle child friendly manner encouraging Boys to develop their points of view.

Creativity Badgework
Paint, glue, paper, clay, wood, sand, plastercene are all used to create themed artwork. Boys take home what they have made!

Spirit Badgework
Boys discuss and explore the Christian faith - look at the major bible stories, Noah, Daniel in the lion's den and look at the life of Jesus. Boys are also introduced to other major faiths and have discussions about who they think God might be.

Body Badgework
Boys learn new skills. Examples include juggling, skipping, hand and eye co-ordination games, relay races and the rules for popular games.

Mind Badgework
Boys undertake project work, learn sign language, measurement and distances, basic astrology and world flag recognition.

Boys also play team games each evening. These include Uni-hoc, skittle grab, football, non-stop cricket and bulldog.

Boys attend each week from 6.30pm to 8pm. Subs are just £1.50. Weekly letter are sent home to parents & guardians informing them of upcoming events and to obtain consent to take Boys on trips. This year The Junior Section have been to Lancaster, Kirkham, bowling, the cinema and cross country.
