Boys move up to the Company Section when they start
Secondary School, and advance to the Senior Section when they are 15.
Company Section meets each Friday at 7.40pm to 10pm, subs are £1.40 per
week. New Boys joining the Boys' Brigade for the first time are at no disadvantage as the uniform and achievement scheme is innovative and different from both juniors and Anchor Boy badgework. Company Section Boys wear a royal blue shirt, a tie and a BB belt, black trousers and black shoes. The shirt, tie and belt can be purchased from the Company Captain. Often second-hand uniform is available at a reduced cost. Each week Boys earn marks for their appearance and shoe care! After Opening Parade and inspection six or seven modules of drill are practised - more if there is a competition due, before Boys change out of their uniform into sports/casual clothes. Achievement classes are in 6 week blocks, often including trips out to places of interest. Boys work for badges, earning credits Leadership Adventure Community, Interest and Physical activities. Leadership credits are earned though Christian faith and drill classes and attendance at monthly parade service. Adventure credits are earned in classes in seamanship, camping skills, walking, map reading, orienteering and survival skills. Community credits are earned in life skill classes, first aid training, environmental and social justice classes and helping in our jumble sales ad other fund raising activities. Interest credits are earned in activities involving art, craft, small mechanical building projects, working with wood, wire and clay. Physical credits are earned easily as the Boys have over 45 minutes teams games each evening. Games include Uni-hoc, football, volleyball, dodge ball, basketball skittle grab and non-stop cricket. Company Section Boys help chose their achievement classes each term often to ensure they gain maximum credit paints each year and work towards their Presidents Badge. Since September 2007 Company Section Boys have earned credits by completing the following classes: cooking, environmental study (water), magic tricks, Christian faith, discovery a county (china), circuit training and drill. Planned future classes include: pool, seamanship, fire prevention and cooking. Boys are split into squads and work together as a team for games and drill. Trips this year for the Company Section have included a visit to a police station, Blackpool, Kirkham overnight camp, Annual Camp to Wales, Dublin, bowling and ice skating. Boys are encouraged to develop self-control, discipline and a respect for self and property. Many Company Section Boys remain in the BB until their late teens, when they move away to attend further education or work. |
