Evening Meetings

Visitors are welcome to come to an evening meeting to meet us and see what we get up to.

We hold our meetings in the Christchurch centre, High Oaks Road, New Greens, St.Albans, Hertfordshire.

This is a Church/Community Centre in the north west corner of St.Albans, in the middle of the housing estate near Batchwood golf course. From St.Albans head north towards Harpenden on the A1081, go past the Ancient Briton pub at the traffic lights, pass Francis Avenue, and take the next left which is Green Lane. Quarter of a mile up this turn right uphill into High Oaks Road. Just before the shops turn left into the church car park.

The meetings generally have some kind of talk, demonstration, quiz, auction, on some kind of of modelling or engineering interest. Our book and video library is brought along to most meetings, and sometimes we have a bring and buy table.

Lakeside Meetings

Our lakeside meetings are held by the pond at the west end of Verulanium Park to the west of the lake, on most sunny Sundays. There is a (pay 80p) car park at the west end of the Park near the pond and a (Pay even more) car park at the east end of the park, near the theatre, swimming pool, and athletics track. To find the Park, head downhill (south) from the cathederal and turn right after the river. Club members tend to gather between 9.30 and 11.30 but other people are there too at other times so be aware of potential frequency clashes with them. Please ensure you have a frequency flag and protective bobble on your transmitter arial.

Track Meetings

We hold meetings at the track on the Sunday after a general meeting from about 10 am. Sometimes the meetings have to be put off due to inclement weather and sometimes the main purpose is track maintenance rather than running. However in the summer  it's a great day out either running a loco or just sitting watching them. New members are given instruction and after a period driving the electric loco can progress to the steam locos. See the Track page for details.
