PRESS RELEASES - January 1997

SATURDAY 8 FEBRUARY 1997 AT 7.30PM

TENANTS' HALL, TATTON PARK, KNUTSFORD, CHESHIRE (England, UK)

AMICI will be performing Bach's Magnificat in D and Mozart's Requiem K626.

Conducted by Raymond Lomax, with:

Claire Dilks - soprano
Joanne Rondel - soprano
Judith Tinston - mezzo soprano
Michael Bennett - tenor
George Hulbert - bass

AMICI, the North West's most exciting new musical ensemble will be making their Tatton Hall debut on Saturday in the historic Tenants' Hall. Under their conductor Raymond Lomax, Amici have quickly established themselves in the region with choral and orchestral concerts in Congleton, Reddish, at Little Moreton Hall, Scholar Green and a magnificent Christmas rendition of Handel's Messiah in Stockport Town Hall.

Said founder-conductor Raymond, "Amici just means friends, and we are all professional and semi-professionals singers and musicians who decided to perform together more often, just for the love of making music. And there's no greater way to do that than by singing the works of Bach and Mozart in such wonderful buildings like Tatton."

In addition to Marple bass George Hulbert, Saturday's performance will also bring together four friends from the opera world. Stockport mezzo Judith Tinston, sopranos Claire Dilks and Joanne Rondel and tenor Michael Bennett have all recently sung with Opera North, Welsh National or ENO. "When we're all so busy", said Claire, "it really is great to meet up again and sing something quite different. These are two lovely works. And the setting, a national heritage site like Tatton, will make it all the more memorable."

Tickets for Saturday's performance can be obtained through Tatton Hall on +44 (0) 1565 654 822, or by ringing +44 (0) 161 474 7657, or at the door. Tickets are priced £7.50 (£5.00 concessions).

SATURDAY 8TH FEBRUARY - TENANTS' HALL - TATTON PARK - 7.30 PM

BACH'S MAGNIFICAT - MOZART'S REQUIEM

Marple Bass George Hulbert, will be joining other "friends" in Amici's Tatton Hall debut performance of Bach's Magnificat and Mozart's Requiem on Saturday night.

Said George,"Amici is really one of the North West's most exciting new musical ensembles. We are all friends, both singers and musicians, and come together just for the sheer joy of making music."

Under the baton of founder-conductor Raymond Lomax, Amici's chorus and orchestra will be performing in Tatton's magnificent Tenant's Hall. "The Tenants' Hall has a really wonderful acoustic," said Raymond, " and there's a very famous Willis organ which we'll be using. Music provides a wonderful way to make new uses for these great heritage sites. And the public seem to love it!"

The concert also brings together some of the rising stars of the operatic world with Stockport's Mezzo Judith Tinston and 'friends' from Welsh National, Opera North and the ENO, sopranos Claire Dilks and Joanne Rondel and tenor Michael Bennett.

In between singing engagements, Judith has also recently managed to give birth to first baby Harriet. "After the chaos of the last few months," said Judith from her home in Edgeley, " it's nice to have a bit of normal musical life again and to be doing some scales. Even if I have to squeeze them in between feeds!"

Tickets for this first Amici event of the 1997 season can be ordered through Tatton Hall on 01565 654822 or by phoning 474 7657.
