About the Club.
Introduction to the Club
Bawburgh Bridge Club provides daytime duplicate bridge for
club-standard bridge players. We play at Bawburgh Village hall, which is amply-heated
well-
lit
and has a capacious car park. There is no smoking anywhere within the
village hall. The playing venue is very convenient, being just off the
city by-pass on the Watton road (See the Map Web Page).
We play on Wednesdays and Thursdays usually at 1.45 pm. The sessions comprise 24 rounds using
pre-dealt
boards. On 4-6 days per annum on Thursdays we expand the program into a Bridge Day,
when we provide about 30 rounds of bridge either side of a nice lunch,
together with morning coffee and afternoon tea. Click on "Program &
Results for Thursdays to check the nature of the current week's fixture. The start time
indicates whether it is an afternoon or all-day session.
The table money for afternoon sessions is £2.00 for members and, when we
are open for new members, £3.00 for visitors This
covers light refreshments - tea
coffee, soft drinks and biscuits - available throughout the playing session.
Fees for Bridge Days are announced individually.
The membership fee for the club is £7.00 for a full year
and £4 for those joining in the second half of the year. The web site includes
an application form which can be printed, saved or emailed. Please forward
your application and joining fee to either the Membership Secretary or the Club
Treasurer.
Member subscriptions are due on 1st April and to achieve continuous membership must be paid at the latest by June 1st. Members renewing after this date are treated as new members and will require re-election by the committee if the club is open to new members. Participation in the club competitions commences on the date of election for the current year.
The club is currently operating a waiting list for
applications for members. To be placed on the list please apply, without paying,
in the usual way. We expect to review the waiting list in May this year
when we have observed the numbers renewing and the effects of the new Wednesday
session. Visitors are welcome to play on Wednesdays either by prior
arrangement with a club official (See "Contacts" ) , or by invitation by a
member.
The club is affiliated to the E.B.U and N.C.B. For E.B.U members,
whether club members or not, MP's are automatically transferred to the
E.B.U
monthly. Paper certificates are issued for non-members who ask for them. (Our scoring system
automatically checks all new players against the E.B.U member
database and registers them for the service.) See the "MP System" web page for more
details of the procedure and the information available to members about MP's
earned at the club.
Membership Records and The Data Protection Act.
As with most Bridge clubs, the administration of membership records,
scoring and communications with members are more or less completely
mechanised. We have provided a web page describing our policies with regard to
the Data Protection act and consent to these policies is a condition of
membership.
Club Competitions
We have separate sets of club competitions for
each playing day. They are only open to club members and operate in an annual
cycle commencing June 1st. Click on
"Competitions" for a description of each contest. Click on "Program &
Results" to ascertain the nature of the days activity and to see the
results of all the competitions for a two year period.
