Hazel Grove United Under 8's
Update - 15th February 2004

Update written by Keith Garrity

After finding what will hopefully be our new home ground on Torkington park the under 8's entertained Stockport Junior blues for a return fixture.

Both matches were were great entertainment, helped again by good refereeing by Steve and obviously both sets of players, who all did very well and should be congratulated.

The first match was won by SJB 1-0 and as the score suggests was a very tight game. The first half was dominated by SJB with most of the play in the Hazel Grove half Grove unable to clear the ball. However there was resolute defending from Macauley in goal, steady Lewis and a great performance from Tom helped out by Mickey and Benny playing in very deep positions. Hazel Grove finally broke out of defense with George and little Ben exchanging passes and laying it off to Benny who was brought down and a penalty was given. Mickey stepped up and the SJB keeper pulled off a superb save to unfortunatley deny hazel grove the lead. The second half started the same with SJB finally breaking through and scoring, however HG piled on the pressure in the last ten minutes and with James coming on, had numerous chances and shots but were unable to make the final breakthrough.

The second game was well won by Hazel Grove 4- 1, with Joe running things upfront and scoring a couple of impressive goals. The midfield was controlled very well, with Greg playing well and scoring, Luke tackling well and Scotty putting in an excellent performance in the middle of the park. A first start was given to Adam in defense who really got stuck in with the ever reliable George N. The second half saw both Harry G and Michael come on and both played well , Harry in goal made a couple of great saves and with some pracatise on his kicking looks to be a good keeper.

Thanks go again to the ever increasing support and to all the parents and players for their help in setting up and clearing the pitch. MUCH APPRECIATED

Training on Sunday 22nd with Rose Hill away on 29th
