Great Moor

3 - 4

Hazel Grove Utd U13's

A fantastic result for Grove against one of the leagues top teams, hard work and determination in the second half saw the lad's triumph in a game made awkward by the blustery conditions.

Firstly, a speedy recovery goes to John Banton who broke his arm in midweek. Get well soon John.

Grove were immediately up against it in the first half, any ball kicked high was blown straight back into their own half. A reformed back four of Gaz, Danny, Lucas and Rob looked as if they could cope with anything. However, the pace of Great Moor upfront, proved too much on 8 minutes, a break on goal left David exposed in a one on one situation and could do nothing with the shot on goal.

The lad's found themselves under the cosh for almost all the first half, and it was 15 minutes before a shot on target was made! Andy Shepherd fired one straight at the keeper, and moments later were awarded a free kick inside their opponents half. Rob took the kick, lofting the ball high into the box and Andy Denny came close latching on with a shot just wide.

Grove had a decent 10 minute spell midway through the half, but were undone from a Great Moor corner when the ball found it's way through a glut of defenders and into the back of the net. Grove responded well with a good move that saw Scott produce a measured ball for Andy Denny who's shot beat the keeper, but drifted agonisingly wide.

Grove just could not get out of their own half, and with a wind assisted attack found themselves three down at the interval.

A completely different second half saw Grove absolutely pummel Great Moor from start to finish. The comeback started from a terrific save made by David who turned the ball onto the post. A fourth goal at this point may have proved too much for Grove. Instead the ball was forced upfront and a corner won. Craig took the kick and swung the ball towards the keeper, the ball went through his hands and fell to Scott who smashed the ball in from close range. At this point it was all Grove, and apart from a terrific last-ditch challenge by Jake were not troubled at the back.

Grove were pushing hard for a second and came close when a surging run into the box by Rob, only ended after beating four or five players!

Moments later and it was two when Jordan broke into the Great Moor box and rifled the ball home.

With the home team visibly crumbling, Grove drew level after a free kick was awarded when Andy Denny was hacked down outside the Great Moor box. A thunderous strike by Rob cannoned off the post and fell to Carl who was first to react and slot home the equaliser.

A brilliant come back was finished off with just seconds remaining. The referee indicated just a minute left of the game, the ball was lofted into the box and an instinctive header by Andy Denny saw the ball loop over the Great Moor keeper, and into the goal sending the away supporters and players into raptures.

A fantastic win for the lad's ending a poor run of defeats.
