4 - 2

Disley

Smith, Denny, Adshead,
Shepherd

By no means a classic performance by Grove, the lad's made the most of their first half chances to finish on top, and frustrate a spirited Disley side.

The lad's started well with an early goal after just 3 minutes. An excellent long clearance by Rob was picked up in midfield by Andy Denny, Andy then played the ball in for Jordan who outpaced the Disley defender and powered the ball home for one nil.

An immediate response from the away team, saw Grove restricted to their own half for the next ten minutes, as Disley pushed hard for an equaliser.

A scare for Grove, saw Rob limp off after a challenge with a Disley player, fortunately he was re introduced a few minutes later after good work from the physio.

With Rob back on, Grove put together a good move and doubled their tally when Andy Denny broke free into the box, and fired the ball home.

With confidence growing the lad's managed a third goal when Carl picked up a rebounded Andy Shepherd effort, and slammed the ball home from inside the box.

However, Disley were given a lifeline before halftime with a goal from a long-range free kick. Ex-Grove player Matt Wragg lofted the ball high toward the Grove goal, the ball was misjudged by Chris and ended up in the back of the net.

Disley made a lively start to the second half creating lots of chances, however a fighting spirit shown by Danny Cork at the back helped peg back the away team.

The Grove defence was constantly being put to the test, and were fortunate when a rare Rob mistake allowed a Disley player a shot on goal, luckily the ball was blasted well wide. Moments later and Lucas was called upon and made a terrific challenge to deny a certain goal scoring chance.

A change was made that saw Chris off and David in goal for the last 15 minutes. With Disley pushing hard for a goal, gaps were left at the back and Andy Shepherd came close with a shot on goal before getting the final touch in a goal mouth scramble, to poke the ball over the line for a much needed fourth.

With the clock ticking, Disley again managed to get on the score sheet, this time it was David who mishandled the ball, allowing a Disley player to score from close range.

Full time and Disley were unlucky not to get something from today's game. But at this late stage of the season its points rather than performances that count, the lad's have played better than this and lost!
