This last game this season was extremely tight and played in difficult blustery conditions which turned out to be less of a spectacle but more a battle. There was never going to be much between the sides and so it proved. Chances were few and far between and in fairness the opposition just about shaved it in this department. Taking an unbiased view the right result would have been a draw but Football can be cruel and the winning goal came courtesy of a unfortunate defensive ricochet which Jack Wharton could do little about. Some minutes later what we saw as a perfectly good equaliser from George Langford was ruled offside. We knew then that it was not to be. Still the move leading up to our 'offside' goal was superb and the finish was sublime.
In the end we have secured 3rd Spot in the Stockport Metro League Division 1 and it is something I am very pleased and proud to report. The lads have played tremendously throughout. The same again... plus a little bit more next season and we, hopefully, won't be too far away.
