Coastal Model Car Racing Club was formed in 1997 to promote
the then new class of "scale" radio controlled touring cars. Initially
meetings where held on a playground at the Orwell School, Felixstowe, which
is where the name Coastal comes from.
We moved to the Indoor Cricket Stadium in Ipswich to enable
us to be more central for the majority of our members, this also allowed us
to race throughout the year. During this period the club was able to
purchase computer race timing software and timing equipment similar to that
used in full scale racing such as Formula One, Indy Cars & the British
Touring Car Championship.
In 2002 the club designed and built the first, and still the
only, purpose built model car asphalt racing circuit in Suffolk at Bourne
Hill in the grounds of the Suffolk Ski Centre. The circuit features multiple
layouts, allowing for variety of different tracks to be used at the
meetings.
The CMCRC complex at Bourne Hill incorporates the Scale
Touring Car circuit and new in 2006 an Off Road Buggy track. Due to planning
regulations we only race electric (battery) powered cars, Nitro cars are not
allowed to be used at anytime at the complex.
Both on road and off road racing utilise our computer
controlled race timing equipment which automatically counts the laps for
each car to 1/1000th of a second, real time race positions and laps are
available on a monitor in the clubhouse. We also have the BBKNet software
available allowing a wireless link to the results during the day if you have
your own laptop. Printouts giving full qualifying &
race details including individual laps are posted on a results board on for
competitors and spectators to see.
