Cleethorpes Athletic Clubs Cross-Country fraternity competed in the 1st meeting of the Cross-country season at Louth Athletic club's London Road Headquarters on Sunday 5th October, and pride of place must go to Under 13 boy Tom Soady. In what was Tom's debut cross-country race in a Cleethorpes vest he led from gun to finish on this challenging  course to eventually win by some distance. Tom's efforts did not go to waste he was joined by another Debutant Andrew Craven  and Royce Coates who  finished 9th and 16th respectively to earn a 3rd team medal.

The Under 13 Girls were not allowing the boys to outdo them. In what is the club's most represented age group, Sarah Davey led the pack with a 3rd place supported by Hannah Dobbs in 9th and Hannah Bellamy in 10th. These 3 earned the club a 3rd team placing. Also in this age group there were two more debutants in Haley Strachan and Sarah Wilkinson who finished 15th and 16th.

In the Under 11 Boys Cleethorpes only had one athlete in William Soady, again in his 1st race for the club he finished a creditable 12th place considering he was suffering with an ankle injury.

In the Under 11 Girls Cleethorpes again had 2 athletes who were making their debuts on the country, in 16th place was Maisie Hanley, considering that she is only 9 years old she did remarkably well, and Danielle Gilchrist who finished 25th, Danielle remarked at the end of the race that she didn't know what pace to run at. I am sure once she gets a few more races under her belt we will certainly see her at the sharp end of races.

Moving onto the Under 15 Girls saw the familiarly names of Louise Yorston, Lisa Holness and gemma Holmes who finished 3rd, 6th and 11th respectively who earned the 2nd team award. It was very pleasing to see Gemma competing again after an injury jinxed summer on the track.

In the Under 17 Men saw the lone figure of Tom Shaw finishing in 6th placed, in a race that he found challenging.

In the combined Under 17, Junior, Senior  and Veteran Ladies, Lauren Harpham was the 1st Junior home  5th overall in the race, Lisa Stafford was 3rd senior, 9th in the race. These two combined with Jacqueline Rea who finished 10th overall to earn themselves 2nd team overall.

Lastly but not least the Junior, senior and Veteran Men combined race where James Hudson found himself 3rd Junior home 12th overall. Chris Hunsley earned himself the 2nd Vet prize by finishing 6th overall. One final athlete to mention was John Green who finished in well deserved 17th place.

So a rewarding day for Cleethorpes Athletic club with a medal haul of 2 golds, 3 silvers and 6 Bronze well done to all the athletes that competed on a day when the weather was more suitable to a track meeting. Could you please note that the next Cross-Country meeting is the Lincs League at Boston on 19th October
