HUMBERSIDE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Cleethorpes AC again took a small contingent of Athletes to Scunthorpe's Quibell Park on Sunday to compete in the County Championships. On what was a cold but sunny day Cleethorpes AC had some excellent individual and team performances. Staring off with the senior men it was very disappointing to see only one athlete wearing the blue and gold and that was in the shape of Ade Roach who had come over from Liverpool to compete, Ade should be very pleased with his performance in finishing 24th place over the 12000m course.

It was much the same in the Senior Women's race in which the lone competitor of Helen McLoughlin finished in a thoroughly deserved place of 10th.

Moving onto the Junior Men again saw a single competitor in James Hudson wearing a Cleethorpes Vest. James finished in a strong finishing 6th place which should see him be selected to represent the county in March.

In the Under 17 Mens race saw Cleethorpes AC's first team success in the shape of Tom Gosney, who was running his first race of the season, Fred Hudson, who was also competing in his first race of the season and the familiar shape of Tom Shaw. These three combined to earn the 1st place team. Incidentally these three finished in 8th, 11th and 12th places respectively.

In the Under 15 Girls saw the familiar three of Louise Yorston, Lisa Holness and Gemma Holmes finish in 5th, 9th and 13th places respectively to earn themselves 3rd place team. Louise should be another athlete to be selected to represent the county in March. Unfortunately Lisa will have to wait after been run out of a selection place with 100m to go.

In the Under 15 Boys saw Liam Clapham finish a strong 11th and the first race of the season for a unwell Adam Croy who finished 16th. Karl Crampton finish a well deserved 17th place. Unfortunately a team place was not earned due to one of the three not wearing a club vest.

In the Under 13 Girls should see Sarah Davey selected for the county team by finishing 5th. Also Hayley Strachan finished in 10th place and a unwell Hannah Dobbs finish 12th. These three combined to finish 4th team overall.

In the under 13 boys saw Cleethorpes AC newest county champion in Tom Soady. Tom had to fight for the right with a Grimsby Harrier and it was not until the last 600m that a gap had developed between them. I believe Tom has not finish outside the top 3 whenever he has competed for the Club, This should stand him in good stead for the bigger races that are looming in January. Also Royce Coates finished a battling 10th place.

Finally John and Barry would like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
