Cleethorpes Athletic Club took a small contingent of Junior Athletes to the first Lincs League Cross Country meeting at Boston's Witham Way Country Park. The weather was more like cross country weather with a strong biting wind but no rain fortunately writes Barry Dobbs

Performance of the day must go to the Under 15 Girls team, this is their 3rd season together and they are hoping for a repeat of the two previous years in winning the team award. They certainly kicked off with a bang on Sunday, led by Louise Yorston, who had a tremendous battle with a Bourne athlete, won the race with a finishing kick that she should be proud of. Louise was ably supported by Lisa Holness, who had one a her better races for some time, to finish in a battling 3rd. The 3rd member of the team is Gemma Holmes, who is certainly slowly getting back her fitness to finish an exhausted 11th place.

Next were the under 13 Girls again superbly lead by Sarah Davey who had a battle royal with a Louth athlete to finish ahead of her in 4th place. Sarah was joined in this age group with Hannah Dobbs and Haley Strachan who finished in 13th & 14th places respectively. These three earned themselves a fourth place in the team rankings.

Jodie Strachan was making her debut in the combined Under 11 Girls and Boys race and she should be really pleased with her performance by coming home in 17th place.

Our sole representative in the combined Junior/Senior/Veteran Ladies race saw Junior lady Lauren Harpham finish a fighting 16th place overall. Cleethorpes also had one athlete in the combined Junior/senior/veteran mens race where Junior man James Hudson finish 32nd overall. James was a little disappointed with the course, he is one of those weird athletes who prefer hills, and this course certainly did not have hills to write home about

Finally we move on to the Under 13 Boys where Tom Soady carried on from where he left off at Louth in finishing 2nd, Tom was beaten today by a guest runner so he is currently leading the league. Royce Coates was our other competitor in this age group he finished a worthy 21st. Royce was able to put in a sprint at the end of the race.

You have to admire all of these youngsters considering that they all competed the previous day for their respective schools. It was a very tiring weekend for them.

Could you please take note that Tuesday night is the last chance you have to enter the Scunthorpe open on November 9th, you cannot enter on the day. Finally I am taking entries for the Hull open, so please see me if you want to enter.
