in memoriam
The writing
of programme notes to accompany each showing was a task carried out
for many years by our late chairman,
John Woodgate. In the beginning was the manual typewriter, scissors
and a pot of glue. Then progress (!) a 'skin' for a Roneo duplicating
machine was 'borrowed' and the loan of the machine negotiated. Then
the CSCS (Company Social Club Secretary) and BFS member would roll off
a batch for distribution at the showing. The company was reimbursed
for the cost of materials, eventually, and the CSCS thanked profusely,
charmingly. Time passed. Progress. A photo copier and a PRINT ROOM is
acquired by the company and put to good use every month by the Film
Society. Meanwhile the Roneo is thrown out by the company and reappears
in the garage of the CSCS. The husband of this remarkably tolerant woman
persuaded her yet again that we can 'make use of it'. For many years
John (chairman) assisted by Shelagh cut and pasted the product, gradually
developing a professional looking document.
Moving
on, we now have an award winning product produced using 21st century
computer technology that never involves sticky fingers, tippex or irrecoverable
errors with scissors.
