Private PARKER WALKER.

38178, 9th Bn, Yorkshire Regiment.

who died, age 31, on the 19th of April 1917.

Son of John and Eliza Walker, of 3 East Terrace, Skelton-in-Cleveland, N Yorks.

At the Census of 1901 Parker Walker, aged 15, is living at 2 Woods Yard, Skelton.
His father, John, from Croston Yorks, is working as an Ironstone miner
Parker had three younger sisters at this time - Sarah 13, Ethel 12 and Alice 4.


He is remembered on Skelton War Memorial. The plaque in Skelton Church puts him in the 3rd Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment, but the Commonwealth War Graves memorial the 9th.


The 9th Battalion was part of 69th Brigade, which was in turn part of the 23rd Division. The Division had taken part in the Battles of the Somme, 1916 and the next year was moved up to Belgium, where it fought in the Battles of Flanders.
Parker must have been killed early on in this next Battle for Ypres.
