Who died, aged 25, on the 27th May 1918.

Of Castle Gardens, Skelton in Cleveland.

Buried at La Ville Au Bois British Cemetery.

Albert was an orphan and had spent his early life in the workhouse. He was probably working for Skelton Castle as a gardener at the start of the War.


The 4th Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment were formed in August 1914 in Northallerton.
They became part of the 150th Brigade, 50th (Northumbrian) Division.
After landing at Boulogne on the 14th May 1915, the Division took part in most of the actions on the Western Front.

Albert was killed at the Battle of the Aisne, when the 1/4th Yorks Battalion and the whole of the 50th Division were decimated in the last German offensive, Blucher-Yorcke. See here.
