The census of 1881 records Walter E Day, aged 4, living at 12 Brewery Tce, Skelton Green, N Yorks.
(Brewery Tce was the old name for Trout Hall Lane.)
Walter's father,William, aged 31 at this time, had been born in Skelton and worked as an Ironstone miner.
His mother, Sarah came from Wilton, N Yorks.
He is the eldest child in the family and had two sisters, Emily H aged 2 and Charlotte 7 months.
By the time of the 1901 census the family had moved to 33 Boosbeck Rd and had 7 more children.
One of these was James H Day, who was killed on the 31st October 1914, while serving with the Royal Field
