Of 34 Charlotte St, New Skelton.



Vermelles British Cemetery.
10k NW of Lens.

E Cook appears on the Skelton War Memorial and the plaque in Skelton Church.
On the 1901 Census an Edward Cook, aged 9, is living at 31 Wharton St, N Skelton, but no evidence that this is same person.


The 10th (Service) Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment were formed at Richmond on the 30th September 1914.
They were attached to the 62nd Brigade of the 21st Division.
The Battle of the Somme lasted from June of 1916 into the winter, with a series of offensives.
At the time of E Cook's death his Division fought in the Battle of Le Transloy which was one of these phases.
After the Armistice graves were brought in to Plots II, IV and VI of the Vermelles Cemetery from the battlefields to the East.
