14th NOVEMBER. Moved up to Starfish line.
15th NOVEMBER. The Bn moved to the Front, where they relieved 3 Btns of the 149th Brigade.
Very much hostile shelling - especially Hexham Rd and Pioneer Alley.

Warlencourt is situated about 5k North of Martinpuich.
Graves were brought in from surrounding battlefields after the War.

16th NOVEMBER. The following 3 men were killed in action and are commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial
2393 Pte Brown Herbert. Enlisted at Middlesbrough, N Yorks.
6321 Pte Lilley Percy. Born and enlisted at Finedon, Wellingborough.
8790 Pte Scott David. Home at Sledmere, Yorks. Enlisted at Beverley, E Yorks.
5714 Sgt Ovington Lawrence. Home at Middlesbrough, N Yorks. Born at Redcar
and enlisted at Northallerton, N Yorks. Killed in action. Age 25. Buried at Bazentin Le Petit Communal
Cemetery Extension.
6126 Pte Kitchener Reginald. Home at 77 Holly Rd, Northampton, place of birth
and enlistment. Died of wounds. Age 22. Buried at St Sever [Hospital] Cemetery Extension Rouen.
17th NOVEMBER. The Btn were to have taken "The Hook", but the Bosche attacked the "Gird" and retook it.
The Gird and Hook were names of Trenches, held by the Germans in the area between the villages of Flers to the right
and Thilloy to the left.
Diary - This made the attack impossible. It was a pity, as we had established posts
and tapes back all round the Hook and aided by Flank attack by the 4th East Yorks Bn might have collared the Hook and
part of the Gird.
The Btn were relieved by the 1st Camerons Btn and returned to the High Wood area.

18th NOVEMBER.
342429 Pte Dellar A. James. Enlisted at Cambridge. Died. Buried at St Sever Cemetery Extension,
Rouen.
19th to 30th NOVEMBER. The Btn moved to Becourt Camp, on the North East outskirts of Albert,
where they remained doing working parties and cleaning up. On the 30th they moved on to Contay, a village about
12k due west of Albert, for a month's training.
The Diary is signed off by Lt. Col F.F. Deakin.

enlistment. Born at Oldham. Died on the 21st, Age 20. Buried at St Sever [Hospital] Cemetery Extension Rouen.
2497 L/Cpl Gains Richard, Hamilton. Home at - Barrowby Thirsk N Yorks, place of
birth and enlistment. Died of wounds on the 29th. Buried at St Sever [Hospital] Cemetery Extension Rouen.
