My Grandfather, 1828 Cpl Herbert Cook served with the 4th Yorks Battalion and died of wounds on the 15th January 1917. He had previously been awarded the Military Medal. I have never been able to find out any details about either incident. I am by no means an expert on the First World War and this website is the result of my search and the realisation of how much will probably never be known about these brave men. Therefore, any new information and suggestions for corrections and improvements are welcomed. I will gladly add any facts/photographs. I have included details of over 900 men who are listed in "Soldiers Died in the Great War", plus one or two others who do not appear there.
COPYRIGHT. I have acknowledged the source of most of the photographs that I have used by means of a link
under each one and believe these to be in the public domain.
