RYA
Level 1 Course
Training is done in RS Visions, The Vision is a modern boat fitted with Asymmetric
spinnaker (not that you use the spinnaker on level 1 or 2 or Seamanship courses.
The mainsails of each boat have two rows of slab reefing so that we can sail
in most winds, the boats are fully insured. Each boat will have two trainees
+ a qualified RYA instructor.
You will learn the rudiments of sailing, launching and recovery of boats, the
names of the various ropes and sails. You will learn how to rig a boat, sail
setting techniques, Helming and boat safety to RYA standards.
At the end of the course
providing you have made satisfactory progress you will be awarded a RYA Level
1 certificate.
RYA Level 2 & Seamanship Courses
To further your boating expertise,
why not go on to take the RYA level 2, and to complete your learning
skills we offer the Seamanship courses
Fees
The two full day course for Level 1, 2 or Seamanship will cost £115 if you
intend joining the club, non-members £190,
If you are not sure about joining the club you can pay the non-members price
and then if you decide to join us get £75 off the membership fee.The course
fees are payable in advance, so it is important that when you arrange your dates
that you are able to do the two consecutive Sundays or the stated dates of the
course.
Buoyancy aids are provided, The RYA certificate is included in the course fee.
A safety boat will be on standby throughout the course
PowerBoat
Coures
For those interested in adding power boat skills, then you can take the RYA
Power 2 course this will
teach you to handle a powerboat safely,
you will then be eligible to take the RYA Safety boat course.
With these two certificates you will be able to act as Safety
boat helms and have the expertise to rescue sailors who need help or salvage
boats
Course fees £110 (you
can pay over £200 for this elsewhere) and then the Safety Boat course
is free to members which again costs over £200 elsewhere
Powerboat courses are only available to club members.
New Members Club
You will then be able to take out the Wembley club sailing dinghies with the
New Members Club (providing the winds are light) and continue to gain more
experience, there are always club members who will be willing to advise you
and help you. We have 14 club boats.

The clubs sailing dinghies are fully insured and maintained by the club
and are free to use by club members. You can join in the Sunday morning racing
or just potter. Many of the Wembley members are looking for crews to sail in
the races, so this could be a good opportunity to gain fast track experience.

Applicants who intend joining the club get priority on
course places, also if for any valid reason you cannot complete the course or
not pass, club members
get free places on a subsequent course to complete/pass
their course.

It is important to email training
to register your place if you have paid by credit card or by bank transfer,

The
RS Vision
Is the ideal boat for training, it is a stable
boat, the cockpit is large enough for two trainees and the instructor.
The boat is fitted
with the Gnav kicker system leaving the cockpit clear
The boat is great to learn to sail in.
Do come and learn to sail with us.
We purchased 5 new boats in 2006 & 1 new boat in 2008
& 2009

This
could be you taking the level 1 course, by lunchtime on the second day, you
and your fellow trainee should be able to sail without the instructor, providing
that the winds are light. The instructor will be keeping an eye on you from
the training boat

Sailing School

For people new to sailing the school runs a full two-day course here at the
Welsh Harp (Brent Reservoir) over (usually) two consecutive Sundays. (9.00am
- 5.00pm)
