An Outing to the Bulb Fields & Churches in Spalding
This is a trip to Spalding (Linc.) on Saturday 2nd. May 2009 to visit the bulb fields and some of the Churches in the area..
Spring is flower frenzy time around the bulb fields, originally Tulips, now Daffodils, growing in the rich soils reclaimed from the marshlands. The town comes alive for the famous Spalding Flower Festival each May when thousands visit to see bucketfuls of colourful spring flower heads decorating the town. Bands, colour, excitement, a great atmosphere the whole weekend!
There are many old and interesting churches in and around the town of Spalding. The spires and towers which punctuate the landscape are visible for miles across the fens. Many hold flower festivals during the spring and summer months and visitors are welcome.
The coach trip from Cambridge will start from the Trumpington Park and Ride site to which it will return late in the evening.
Price: Members £18.50, Non members £20.00. Booking commences at the February meeting.
A Flying Visit to the 2009 Berlin Christmas Markets.
A short week-end break to visit Berlin is being arranged. The dates are Friday 27 November to Monday 30 November 2009 flying from Stansted.
Day 1. You depart from Stansted on the early evening flight to Berlin and will be transfered on arrival to the Hotel Ibis Mitte.(or similar). This is a 3 star hotel with 198 rooms, 108 of which are non smoking. It is located in the centre of Berlin near Alexanderplatz. There is no evening meal provided.
Days 2 & 3. Using the efficient and extensive U-Bahn and S-Bahn services in Berlin you have the opportunity to visit the various Christmas markets around the city. In addition you may wish to take the U-Bahn to the Brandenburg Gate and after seeing the Reichstag, walk through the Gate and down the Unter den Linden. Nearby is the Gendarmenmarkt, a short walk away is another delightful market near the Opera House and ending at Alexanderplatz market
Day 4.After checking out of the hotel the morning and early afternoon are free to continue exploring Berlin before departing for the airport at about 18.00. Your luggage can be stored at the hotel until you are ready to return. The flight home departs from Berlin at 21.55 hrs.
Price £329.00 per person. Single room supplement £129.No evening meals are included in the price, but a group will be made up for the Saturday and Sunday evenings at restaurants near to the Ku-dam. Insurance up to the age of 84yrs at £29.00. Bookings can be made at the monthly meetings.
