01/05/08 Abbotsbury match results. Well firstly I would like to say hi to a new member Alan, who joined us on Saturday night, welcome Alan and I hope you enjoy fishing with us. Well what can I say but what a hectic night, all of us caught fish, although it was Doggies all round, it was great sport and good fun to finally have something to do all night. Mike did his normal Chesil special and caught 15 fish on his own, which totaled an amazing 8.17M's of fish! Between the six of us we caught 39 fish in 4 hrs!, which is a club record and will be hard to beat. The total length caught was 19.86M's which I estimate to be around 100lb of fish caught! Quite an achievment by us all so well done to everyone. It was also the Churchill cup meeting, so well done Mike for winning the Cup for the 2nd time running. It also looks like Mike may well win the League Sheild again this year, however there are two more trips to Chesil still to go this year so you can't be too sure just yet. If all else fails the F1 League Cup is still up for grabs and is very much wide open at the moment. Thanks to all that turned up, look forward to our next match on May 17th at Milford-on-sea. 1st place= Mike A 2nd place= Ken V 3rd=Peter A
05/03/08 Plaice fishing at Eastney Beach, Portsmouth Hi Guys Just to let you all know the Plaice fishing trip to Eastney was going to be on the 8th March (Saturday daytime), but I have been looking at reports and the Plaice are still very thin on the ground. Last year they were getting good numbers in February, but I think it's going to be a bit later this year. I have decided to re-arrange it for the first Saturday in April instead to give us a better chance of catching a Plaice. This will be Saturday 5th, high water is around 11.30am so it would mean leaving around 7am to catch the tide. If anyone wishes to join me, send me an email or call me and we can arrange meeting points etc... Cheers Brian
20/01/08 (Please Read) Hi Guys Well I have had a little think about the suggestions made on Saturday night about changing the points system to a Formula 1 (F1) style system… e.g. winner 10 points, 2nd 8 points, 3rd 7 points etc…etc… The idea was suggested in the hope that it would keep the league a bit tighter and not allows someone to go miles in front after a good night, therefore giving the others a fair chance to catch up. I decided to do some test runs on the last 3 years results, to see how it would affect the final figures, here are my findings: Results 2005: By the end of the October match 2005 using the F1 system, I would have been on 55 points, my nearest rival at this time was Ken, who would have been on 30 F1 points. Already at this point, using the F1 system I had won. Ken could not have caught me no matter how many fish he caught or matches he won because he could only ever get to 50 points. In reality though, he was only 89cm behind me (a couple of fish) at this time and it made it a fight to the last match. My point being, Ken had a very good chance to catch me in the last few matches, as did the others but using the F1 system it would have made it impossible. Results 2006: Ok, I admit I had an exceptional start to this year fishing wise. However using the F1 system I would have been league winner by August! The reason being there was only 40 points available to win from that time and my nearest rival (Mike) would have only had 8 points at this time meaning he could only ever get to 48 points if he won the last four matches. In reality though, he was only 183cm behind me with 6 matches to fish (about 4 average fish) which is a very realistic possibility. My point again is everyone had a chance to catch me if they had a good night, but with the new F1 system no one could have caught me after August. Results 2007: This was a strange year because we almost tripled the amount of fish caught on the last 2 years. The F1 system would have worked well to a point, because the results were spread out much more than in the previous 2 years. Mike would still have been leader with 17 F1 points after his great night at Chesil, but he would have lost his lead to me in October as I would have been on 27 points to his 25 at this time. He would have still won though by winning the last match and having a total of 35 F1 points. Many of the runner-up positions would have changed; I would have been 2nd, Tristan 3rd, Ken 4th and Peter 5th. My final word on this: After looking at the above results very carefully I feel the F1 system is more likely to make it harder to catch up or even impossible in some cases. The amount of fish you catch is not an issue because the F1 system is about the amount of matches you win. I will still use the F1 system this year and review it again next year, however I do think it is likely that for some of us it will be all over by the middle of the year. I was quite surprised with the above findings. I too thought the F1 system would make it easier to catch up but in reality it could make it harder or impossible! Please email me and let me know what you think. Cheers Brian T
12/01/08 I have now completed the list of fixtures for 2008, follow the 'Fixtures' link to see new dates. This year I have tried to repeat the most productive fixtures from the last 3 years, in the hope that we will have a productive year throughout. I have also sorted out the Cups and awards for 2007 so we will need to get a meeting arranged when I see you all next. I will be taking subs again this year, last year was a freebie because we had money left over from the previous year. I have worked out that £6 per head should cover the costs this year, this enables us to have a few cups and trophies to chase during the year and hopefully a couple of bottles along the way. Hope to see you all on the 19th Jan at Whitecilff. Cheers, Brian T
10/01/08 I have now set this months fixture , it is on Sat 19th Jan at Whitecliff, meet on the road by the railway bridge (near to Poole Park back entrance). High tide is at 8.13pm, fishing from 7-11pm as normal. (see Fixtures 2008)
07/01/08 Happy New Year to you all! I hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year break. I am back at work now, trying to catch up on lost time, still the break was nice well it lasted. I am working on the new fixture dates for 2008 but I have to wait until mid Jan before I can finalise as I have two AGM's to go to before I know what dates I am free. I intend to make our first match inside the harbour as usual this time of year, either 19th or 25th of Jan. Again I can't confirm dates just yet but should know in the next few days. Sorry to be vague but have so many busy days in Jan, with AGM's and sorting out my books for the Taxman by the end of the month. I will let you know as soon as I can. 20/12/07 Well done to all those who fished at Holes bay on Saturday, sorry I didn't join you but I was feeling rough. Seems like you had a good night with a couple of nice fish caught. Here is Russell with a quality Flounder that he caught: 15/10/07 It was a nice mild night that we had at Chesil cove at the weekend, hard to believe it was mid October and I fished all night in a T-shirt. I like this venue, as I have seen some good fish caught here over the years. It has probably been about 3 or 4 years since I last fished it and I don't remember the bank ever being as steep as it was this time. Still it was worth the climb as most of us caught fish. All in all there were 12 fish caught, all sizeable Dogfish, ok not the greatest species hunt but very enjoyable all the same. Results are as follows: 1st place = Brian T 2nd place = Tristan H 3rd place = Ken V
23/09/07 HI all, well it's been a while since I updated the website, but to be honest not much has been caught in the last couple of months. I had a bit of trouble getting the updates to transfer to the website, a problem with the FTP, anyway I have got a new FTP program and it all seems ok again. Four of us fished the Friars Cliff match last night and for a change all of us caught sizable fish. There seemed to be reasonable action for most of the night with numerous species being caught. Steve had the best night with a mixture of Pouting and an eel, he also caught an undersize Ray which was a great turn up. Ken and myself had a good size whiting each, the rest of the catch was made up of Pouting. Russ had loads of bites and eventually landed a couple of sizable Pout. I think we landed around 17 fish between the four of us, 12 of which were sizeable. All in all a great night. 1st place = Steve C 2nd place = Ken V 3rd place = Brian T
Steve won the total pool money of £8.00
29/06/07 Just a quick update. There were no sizable fish caught at Branksome in our May match. We decided to cancel our June match at Chesil because most of you were on your camping weekend. Hope you all had a good time, sorry I didn't manage to join you but I was a bit busy that weekend. I look forward to seeing you all at Sandbanks on the 14th July, don't forget this match will start and finish one hour later than normal (8pm to 12pm). This just allows the beach to clear if it gets busy and it's darker too. Cheers, Brian T (Ex GB!)
07/04/07 Match report for March 2007 Well we did at least see some fish caught on this match. A mixture of 8 Pout and Rockling were caught, but unfortunately all were undersize, still it was a nice night and it's always good to catch something in in March (which I usually find is the worst month of the year). It seems like Highcliffe could be an excellent venue on the right night, I will reschedule it for next year during the winter months, when it will hopefully be more productive. Did I mention I was 1mm short for a sizeable pout, yes that was 1mm!!!
20/02/07 Match report for Feb 2007 Sorry guys, it's been a while since I updated the news page. I will try and get it back on track again this month. Well five of us turned out to fish at the Holly Bush section of the harbour, hoping that there were still a few big Flounder around. As it turns out there wasn't, well not that night anyway. I think we all had some good bites but Peter was the first to pull in a Flounder that was sizeable, he was also the last, as no other sizeable fish was caught. So it is with great pleasure that I congratulate Peter on winning his first match with the club. Peter also won the £10 pool money, well done mate 1st place - Peter Atkinson no other places
28/09/06 Match report for September. As far as I am aware, no-body fished this match. I couldn't make it last minute as I was unexpectedly caught up at work and I don't think any of the others turned up either. I did manage to speak to Steve but couldn't get hold of Tristan or anyone else. I only had a few of your numbers on my new phone! I'm sure if anyone fished the match, I would have heard by now.
29/08/06 Match report for August at Sandbanks (summer cup) Once again not much to speak about, again only Steve and myself turned up. We did catch plenty of fish between us but nothing that was sizeable. Small Bass and Smuts were caught all through the evening, but alas nothing that could quite make the size.
28/07/06 Match report for July at Southbourne (Warren Edge). Well to be fair, there was little to report for our July match as only two us turned out, Steve and myself. The weather was dull with a warm breeze and the sea looked great with a nice swell coming in. Unfortunately the swell created loads of weed and it became un-fishable within a couple of hours. We did both catch, but both fish were undersize. In the end we decided to give up at and go and get a kebab, so all was not lost!
29/06/06 Match report for June at Highcliffre beach. As far as the weather was concerned, you couldn't have asked for a better night. It was warm dry and sunny with a calm sea. If only the fishing could have matched it, unfortunately it couldn't as it was a very slow night, with a only a couple of knocks between us. There was a lot of spider crab activity and this was probably the main reason the fishing was poor, as the bait was gone in seconds. I got a bit bored and went up to talk to Tristan, only to return and find I had caught a Mackerel off the bottom, it had probably been in the water for about 1/2 an hour and had been attacked by the spiders. It was very strange to pull a perfectly gutted Mackerel from the sea. After discussing it with Tristan, it was decided that the catch was perfectly legal, as it was hooked cleanly in the mouth and was caught off the bottom. Although it was dead it was obviously fresh, it still maintained it's length and could be measured accurately and in our club that's all that matters. Sorry guys if you disagree, but I would have been happy to measure and record it if anyone else had caught it. Nothing else was caught on the night so I was the winner of the match and took the pool of £8. 1st = Brian Terrey No other places Thanks guys for turning up, although the results were poor, the venue was excellent and I will probably include it again, but perhaps slightly later in the year. Cheers and see you next month.
14/05/06 Match report for May at Branksome:- Well it was another good nights fishing. The weather was perfect and there were plenty of fish caught by us all. Bass, Smoothound, Dogfish were out there, along with a Weaver fish caught by Pete. Unfortunately most of the fish caught were undersize, but this didn't alter the fact that we all caught fish. At a rough guess, I would say that around 20 fish were caught in all. I find it hard to say, but I was lucky enough to catch the only sizeable fish of the night (sorry guys) a Dogfish of 55cm, So it meant that I won the match and took the pool of £10. (Now I must remember to polish my golden bollocks for the next match!). 1st = Brian Terrey No other places Thanks to all of you who turned up and I will see you again next month.
28/04/06 Our April match was the most productive match since the club started, with everyone catching and recording at least one fish. In all, 20 fish were recorded and there were numerous other fish caught that were undersize. Dogfish seemed to be the most popular fish, there were 18 of them caught between us. Also a Dab caught by Pete and Ken caught a super-size Mackerel from the bottom. Among the undersize fish were, pout and a Ray was taken by Steve, although we are not too sure exactly what type of Ray it was. All in all it was a great night, with good weather, calm sea's and a few good fish too! By the way, this was also the Churchill cup match and I was very lucky to win it with only 4cm over Mike. Results as follows:- 1st=Brian Terrey (+Churchill cup) 2nd=Mike Atkinson 3rd= Steve Churchill 4th=Ken Vincent
30/03/06 We decided to abandon our match in March due to bad weather. No results were recorded and the match will not be re-scheduled .
29/01/06 We have now started our second year of the DCSAC. New members are welcome to join at any time during the year. A total of eight anglers turned up on our 1st match of 2006, these included two new members, Mike & Pete. We fished the Whitecliff/ / Baiter area, as we had done the year before. Unfortunately the fishing was not as productive as the previous year and as a result only 2 Flounder were caught. There were a couple of other bites, but not much else. Many thanks to you all for turning up on what was a freezing cold night. The results are as follows:- 1st = Brian Terrey (or Golden Bollocks!, which I seem to have been nick-named) There were no other place's so I won the total pool of £16 On a final note, we are meeting for a drink in the Harvester pub off Alder Rd (Sainsburys) on Sat 4th Feb at 6pm. This is just a social meeting and will allow us to hand out the cups and awards for 2005.
12/12/05 Our final match took place at Hamworthy park, looking for the Flounders again. The match started fairly slow, with no bites for a few hours. Eventually a couple of flatties were caught and in the end 4 of us managed to record sizeable fish. The results are as follows:- 1st = Ken Vincent 2nd = Brian Terrey 3rd = Peter Ridout 4th Dave Ridout Thanks to all the members for their support during the past year and look forward to seeing you all again in the New Year.
01/12/05 It hardly seems possible that a year has almost past us by. The fishing has been in general fairly poor this year, although there have been the odd nice fish caught amongst us. Although I wasn't here during our October match at Branksome, I have been informed that the weather was terrible and fishing was only just about possible during the slack water. As a result nobody caught a sizeable fish and resulted in our 2nd completely blank night as a club. Our November match was re-scheduled a week late because most of us had trouble making the match. We decided to change the venue to lake pier, hoping for the big Flounder to appear. It was a cold but fairly wind free night, most of us had a knock or two and both Peter and Ken managed to catch a sizeable Flounder (Ken's was on his very last cast!) The results are as follows: 1st place Peter Ridout 2nd Place Ken Vincent (no other placing) The pot of £8 was won by Peter Ridout. Thanks to those who attended on such a cold night. Our last match of the year is at Hamworthy Park, once again looking for the Flounders. If you are attending this match can you bring a cheap bottle of plonk with you to put on the prize table. We can share the bottles between the 1st and 2nd place. Also there will be an extra £10 in the pool fund which will be split in the normal way. Good luck guys and see you soon.
29/09/05 Well I think our Chesil match was a little disappointing. Five of us fished the ferrybridge section of Chesil and only Peter was lucky enough to catch anything sizeable, he had a fat Pout of 23cm. Well done Peter, who won the match and scooped the £10 in the pool. 1st Peter Ridout (no other placing) I was also told at the match, that Ken has been unwell recently and must spend some time to recover. I would just like to say get well soon mate, take care and look forward to seeing you out again when you are feeling up to it. Thanks to all who attended, I will be on holiday on our next match in October, but I will leave you in the capable hands of Tristan and Steve to sort out the sign-in/ pool etc.... Good luck and see you all soon..
28/08/05 Once again six of us turned out for the Hegistbury Head match, only to find out the car park would be locked at 10pm. It was decided, (by those who attended) to move the match to Southbourne to avoid being locked in. I will put Hegistbury down again for next year but perhaps to fish a little earlier in order to be out by 10pm. It was a very warm night with a huge tide, which resulted in many of us having to fish from the Prom. We were also attacked by a very hungry swarm of Mosquitoes, I don't think any of us got away without being bitten a few times. There were a few more fish around at Southbourne this time. A mixture of Gurnard, Pout, Bream and Bass were caught, although the Bass were undersize. In the end a total of 7 fish were recorded. Best fish of the night was between Peter who caught a good size Bream for the shore and Ken had who a nice Gurnard. The results are as follow: 1st = Ken Vincent 2nd = Brian Terrey 3rd = Peter Ridout 4th = Steve Churchill The pot of £12 was split 60%/40% between Ken and myself. Thanks to you all for turning up and look forward to seeing you at Chesil beach in September.
17/07/05 Sorry, I am a little behind with the postal update, I should have it out by the end of the week.
15/07/05 Six of us turned out for the Cup match in Sandbanks. What a warm summers night it was too, with a gentle breeze and a calm sea. (Well apart from the one freak wave which managed to swamp me!) There were a few undersize fish caught, which included Bass, Bream and Smoothounds. I was lucky enough to catch the only sizeable fish of the night, a Smoothhound of 56cm - probably around the 2.5lb mark. This means I have also won the DCSAC Annual Cup, I find it hard to write about my own good fortune it is a lot easier writing about someone else in the club. Anyway that's how it ended up and the results are as follows: 1st= Brian Terrey No Places I walked away with £12 from the pool and the DCSAC Cup so can't grumble about that. Thanks once again for turning up and will see you all again in August.
06/06/05 Another month has passed, it only seems like a few weeks ago we were at out first match and already we are half way through the year. I will be sending out an update soon to keep everyone informed on league positions etc... Results for June match at Milford: A total of 6 anglers turned up for our Milford/Hordle match on Saturday 4th June. What a windy night it was too, a strong westerly wind kicked up the sea and white water was visible as far as the eye could see. Along with the wind came the weed and the first 2 hours of fishing was a nightmare as the weed dragged on our lines. Most of us decided to stop fishing for a while and wait for slack water. Just before high water (9.30pm ish...) the sea started to slacken, from that point fishing was a joy as the wind dropped and the weed seemed to disappear completely. The conditions took there toll on us all and as a result only one sizable fish was caught, which was a nice Bass of 41cm, by Ken so well done mate. 1st = Ken Vincent No places Pool money of £26 (inc + £14 rollover) was won by Ken, so he had a very good night, well done again mate. Thanks to you all for turning up, look forward to seeing you all again for our cup match in July.
25/05/05 Sorry it's taken so long to get this page updated, I had a major system crash and had to rebuild my system. Well our May match was a little disappointing, there were no sizeable fish recorded and the pool money has been rolled over to the June match. The news is that the summer species have finally hit the shores. Bass, Sole, Plaice, Smoothhound, Turbot and Rays have all been caught in the last week from our shores, so hopefully things are on the up! Look forward to seeing you all in June at Hordle/Milford.
11/04/05 Tristan Holloway has received a 'Mission Badge' from Sea Angler magazine for the 2lb-2oz Flounder he caught on our first match at Whitecliff. Well done Tristan keep up the good work.
10/04/05 The results are in for our April match at Friars Cliff. All members turned out on Saturday night. Not the most productive night, with only 3 Rockling caught and 1 LSD, however most area's are really slow at the moment. Many of us hoped for the odd Plaice to show, but it seems that it was still a bit early for them. Results are as Follows: 1st = Ken Vincent, 2nd = Paul Pecan, 3rd = Brian Terrey, 4th = Barry Webb The pool money of £18 was split 60/40 between Ken and Paul, It was great to see our new member 'Ken Vincent' doing so well in his first competition, well done mate. Thanks to you all for turning out, we had a full house which was really good. With the warmer weather approaching, I am fairly confident that our next match at Southbourne should be a little more productive, look forward to seeing you all there on May 7th.
06/04/05 New member joined, the DCSAC welcomes Mr Ken Vincent.
01/04/05 Quarterly updates have been sent out
14/03/05 For our March match we travelled to Abbotsbury, unfortunately there wasn't much action, with only 3 sizeable Pout caught. There were however a few undersize fish caught which included 1 Silver eel, 1 Whiting and 1 Rockling. Although the fishing was poor, we all seemed to enjoy the night . hopefully our next visit to Chesil will be more rewarding. Results are as follows: Joint 1st place = Paul Pecan & Brian Terrey , 2nd = Steve Churchill The pool money of £10 was split 50/50 by Paul and myself. Thanks to all who turned up, our next match will take place at Friars Cliff on the 9th April.
27/02/05 Our 2nd match took place at Sandbanks. The weather was a bit kinder than our last match and although there was a cold NE wind, it was at least dry. Six members turned up and all in all it wasn't a bad night for this time of year. There were 18 fish caught in total, 16 Flounder, 1 Plaice and 1 Rockling, however only 3 fish were sizeable and were recorded. Results are as follows: 1st = Brian Terrey, 2nd = Peter Ridout The pool money of £12.00 was split 60/40 between myself and Peter. Although none of the fish recorded were particularly big, I think the best fish of the night should go to Peter Ridout as he caught the only round fish of the night, so well done for that. All the figures have been entered on the league table, click on 'RESULTS' for more details. Thanks to all of you who turned up, our next match is in 2 weeks time at Abbotsbury, so look forward to seeing you there on March 12th.
23/01/05 The results of our first match are in, click 'RESULTS' button for more details. Eight members braved the wind and rain for our first match which was from Whitecliff to Baiter. I think we all got wet to the bone, but I must say I did enjoy the night. I would like to thank all of you for turning out on such a night, hopefully the weather will be a bit better on our next match. A total of 5 sizeable fish were recorded, all Flounder, not bad considering the strong easterly wind. Results are as follows: 1st = Brian Terrey , 2nd = Tristan Holloway, 3rd = Dave Ridout, 4th = Paul Pecen The best fish of the night was Tristan's Flounder of 42cm (2lb 2oz), well done mate. The pool money of £16.00 was split 60/40 between myself and Tristan. Thanks once again and look forward to seeing you all at Sandbanks in February. Tristan's with his Flounder of 2lb 2oz.
21/01/05 I have had to change a couple of dates on our fixture list. Please discard the old fixture list. Follow this link for more information. Fixture updates
09/01/05 A new member has joined, the DCSAC welcomes Paul Pecen.
23/12/04 I just wanted to wish all the members of the DCSAC a ' Merry Xmas & Happy New year' I look forward to meeting you all on our first match in just over 4 weeks time. Brian
09/12/04 A new member added, DCSAC welcomes Peter Ridout.
06/12/04 In response to my little survey on the 'No lures' rule. More than half the members have said to keep the rules the same or to leave it to my decision. So the 'no lures' rule will stay as it is. I am going to drop the 'No Floats' rule though, as I feel they do not give an angler an unfair advantage. I feel that floats are a method of fishing and not an attractant and can't see any reason why they can't be used if anglers wish to.
03/12/04 By now all existing members should have received their membership packs for 2005. If anyone has not received one, please let me know.
25/11/04 Membership packs are now ready and will be sent out over the next few days. Any members who have not yet paid for 2005, can pay on our first match on January 22nd. (£10 cash only please)
19/11/04 After discussions with the bank, I have decided not to open a bank account in the Clubs name for the time being. It would seem that, in order to open a official 'Club bank account', you have to open a business account (as most clubs wish to make money and are therefore classed as a business), you also have to appoint accountants etc... (which all cost money) This is fine for a large social club, but pointless for a small, non-profit making fishing club like ours. I think I may just open an account in my name and keep it solely for the DCSAC use.
15/11/04 Due to a cock-up at the bank, the application for a bank account was lost. I will have to re-apply. I will let all members know as soon as I do.
26/10/04 An application has been made for a club bank account (in the name of DCSAC) Hopefully it will be approved without any problems. This will give the club a controlled finance system, also members will be able to send cheques to pay subs for the year.
20/10/04 New Member added, Tristan Holloway
