This is Pendle Queen, a Mississippi style paddle steamer built from scratch by Michael, a friend of mine, about 25 years ago. She spent the last 18 years stored in his loft, collecting dust and slowly falling apart. I had to completely dismantle the superstructure in order to clean and repaint her to the current condition. Everything you can see here is original apart from the red windows of the bridge. New parts include a motor, battery, a couple of microswitches and a servo. She was destined for the rubbish bin when Michael moved house late last year - I couldn't see that happen to such a wonderful model so I offered to restore it.
I'm sure you'll agree with me in saying she was well worth the time and effort spent in restoring her. |
This is the Precedent kit Hanseat. Another very old model, given to me by Michael some 18 or 19 years ago when she was only partially completed. I finsihed her off to a poor standard, sailed her a couple of times and then stored her in my own loft about 16 years ago. Since picking up the modelling bug again I brought her out of retirement, repaired and restored her and here she now is. Although she was called Hanseat I have renamed her after a favourite Discworld character, Commander Vimes. After a few teething troubles with blown speed controller and motor she is now a wonderful site on the lake... even when it is snowing!
She is running from a 12Ah, 12Volt battery which gives an hour or so of run time powering an MFA Merlin motor. Radio is the two channel Acoms set recycled from Bathurst. I still need to add some lights, flag pole, anchor and other bits and pieces. Most urgent though is to find a dingy of suitable size to fit over the rear hatch. |
