Hi my name is Eddie and I am a local lad born and bred in Grimsby in 1942 in what was called the West marsh in them days.  I attended Armstrong Street school and left in 1958 and worked in several jobs around town until I decided that a life at Sea was for me, so I joined the Merchant Navy and traveled the world until 1972, when I came ashore for the last time or so I thought.  I worked at Fisons on Immingham dock until it was taken over by Norsk Hydro and redundant in 1993.  My interest in Radio started when I joined the Navy, I was always in the radio room with the R/Os although my job was in catering.

I sat my RAE at Grimsby College in 1985 and passed my Morse in 1987.  I enjoy my hobby much to the dismay on my wife Chris hi hi, Little did I know that it would stand me in good stead for my next venture, for I went back to sea after passing my Marine Radio Ticket at TyneTees college in 1995.  I have worked on several Oil Rigs both in the UK and Norway and at present I am on the Platform Beryl Bravo on a 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off rota. G4VFU Carl and myself wrote an Article for Practical Wireless in June 1997 called "Well Oiled Radio" all about working Ham Radio from Oil Rigs it was great fun and my claim to fame hi. I have included some pictures of the Radio Room on the Beryl Bravo my present Rig thought they might be of interest to all the Local Hams.  I can be contacted by email at  ecalro@hotmail.com
