PADDY THE CLOWN ON KAKAPO ISLAND
Western Mail Feb 2001
By Tony Woolway

Yet another half term upon us and we can rely on the Sherman Theatre to provide just the entertainment for hard-pressed parents to while away a few hours in the comfort of a warm theatre. With Paddy the Clown on Kakapo Island it’s as if the Panto season hasn’t ended and with plenty of audience participation and a few sing-a-long songs to get the feet tapping it’s a noisy and highly entertaining affair from start to finish. You know that you are in for a treat when you find out that the narrators are a Dinosaur and a Dodo. They set the scene for a good-hearted clown, Paddy, to try and save the last species of Kakapo, the world’s largest, rarest and smelliest species of parrot from the clutches of the unscrupulous Seymour Grabbitt. Far away on an island south of New Zealand, Paddy with his mum in tow and with the help of his elephant friend, Little Squirt, they set about the task of safeguarding the species and great entertainment it was too. Excellent fun and highly recommended for those who can’t wait till next Christmas for a dose of good old Panto slapstick.

Bill’s comedy credits include two one-man shows Opening Gambits and Pre-Shaving Tension. His comedy characters Dilwyn Davies and Sir Owain Omsbud have appeared at comedy clubs nationwide.

Bill has directed The Hour of the Lynx (Eclipse Theatre), Lone Star (Sheffield Crucible, Studio).

Bill has company managed for Nick Thomas Enterprises, Qdos and the Theatre Royal, Norwich on productions such as Haven Heroes, Circus Haven, Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs and Jack & the Beanstalk.
