Thomas Hibel was born in Kempley, a small village near Gloucester. In March 1846 Thomas married Eliza Williams.
Thomas and Eliza eventually moved to Rotherham, Yorkshire where they resided at 121 St. Ann's Road. Thomas worked as a coal miner.
By 1891 Thomas and Eliza were living at 7 Robinson Row, Piece End, High Green, Sheffield. Their son John Thomas (on whose birth certificate we find the family name spelled 'Hibel', rather than 'Ible'), and his wife Harriett lived nearby at number 10 Robinson Row.
On the 1901 census Thomas is apparently still working at the age of 77! His occupation is given as Stone Breaker.
