Thomas Ible was born in Upton Bishop, a small village just over the Gloucestershire border in Herefordshire. He was an agricultural labourer. Thomas married Mary Hughes in 1815 in Upton Bishop and they had a son, James, in October of the same year. James, unfortunately, only survived for two days and was buried in Upton Bishop on 17th October 1815. Another son, George, was born on 17th February 1820. George survived and prospered, marrying Elizabeth Thomas in 1847 and emigrating to the USA with children Harriett, Sarah and Thomas in 1852.

Mary Ible died in 1822 and Thomas moved to Kempley, Gloucestershire and married his second wife, Elizabeth, sometime before 1824. Children of the couple were; James c.1824-c.1896, Maria 1824-1899, Thomas 1825-1905 (my g-g-grandfather), Sophia 1827-1829 and Abiah 1830-1856.

By 1861, Thomas and Elizabeth were living with their son James at Hillend Green, Oxenhall, Gloucestershire, where Elizabeth died in 1864. Thomas survived for three more years, dying on 10th November 1867. He was laid to rest four days later in Oxenhall.
