Joseph Hible was born on 2nd October 1906 to parents John Thomas Hible (known as Jack) and Harriet Hannah (nee Shires). He was born and raised in the family home; 27 Piece End, High Green, in the district of Wortley, Yorkshire. High Green is now a suburb of Sheffield and is situated half way between Sheffield and Barnsley.
Joe worked at the world-famous Newton Chambers Iron Foundry, Thorncliffe Works, Chapeltown. He eventually became a foundry foreman.
On the 1st June 1929 Joe married Ada May Hewitt (daughter of John William Hewitt and Mary Ann (nee) Smith), in St Thomas' Church, Worsbrough Dale. The couple continued to live in Piece End, High Green, but eventually moved to 9 Wharncliffe Road, just a stone's throw away from Piece End.
Joe and Ada had five children: Peggy Josephine, Joyce, John Derek (my father), Richard and Keith.
