FERRY

will invigorate empty shop space in New Ferry.
New Ferry Butterfly Park hopes to encourage local residents to get
planting.”
New Ferry Butterfly Park has recently been awarded an Empty Shops Fund
grant by Wirral Council in order to encourage the use of vacant shop
premises for creative activity to reinvigorate our town centre and help
economic recovery. The park's volunteers also wish to raise awareness of
the beautiful 5 acre nature reserve we have in New Ferry, behind the
Aldi store. It is hoped that raising awareness will promote local
planting through the media of art.
New Ferry
Butterfly park currently has 26 species of butterflies with 16 breeding
on site. Carol Ramsay, Project Manger of The Comma Project thinks there
is no reason why in the future, New Ferry can’t have enough butterfly
attracting plants within its open spaces to attract many more
butterflies to the area. Maybe one day New Ferry could become a town of
biodiversity, a Butterfly Town.
‘Comma’ is our
Community
Arts
Project, which will run for six months inside the former Runners Sports
Shop which closed recently. Artists will be producing artwork
about, for and with the local community, around the creation of 6 mini
residencies (4 weeks each between May – Sept). Each residency
proposal is nature/environment based and has an emphasis on interaction,
so the park's volunteers would like the people of New Ferry to feel a
part of this project.
Carol Ramsay, Project Manager of The Comma Project said: “I'm on the
lookout for new volunteers, perhaps local people who have visited the
Butterfly Park in the past but maybe not been involved before. We need
volunteers to help staff the shop. It would be really great to be able
to have both spaces open to the public as often as possible."

was officially opened on Friday 20th April by the deputy Labour leader,
