After being hit by a car whiles apprehending a murderer in 2008, New York detective. Sam Tyler (Jason O'Mara) regains consciousness to find himself inexplicably transported back in time to 1973. While working for ‘The 125 Precinct’ Sam searches for the reason to his predicament, and for a way to return home to his own time in 2008.

The series had a 17 episode run, with ABC airing the first seven episodes on Thursday evenings in 2008, before moving the final ten episodes to Wednesday nights in January 2009. The show finished its run on April 1st, with Sam finally discovering the truth about how, and why, he was suddenly thrown back 35 years into the past.

Despite its very short run, and premature cancellation, ‘Life On Mars’ gathered a large following of fans. Those fans continue to keep the series alive through discussion forums and fan sites. Despite the series having a concluding story, and Sam’s experience being explained in the final episode, several visual hints were included in the finale to leave his predicament open for speculation, and hence the option for theory & debate for years to come.
