Most people buy their bearded dragons as hatchlings.
You should look for a hatchling that looks alert and active. They
should be eating well, going to the bathroom regularly and at least 6
weeks of age.

Sometimes hatchlings can lose the end of their tail and toes due to nipping from their siblings, this does not usually affect their health but does affect aesthetics.
If you buy your bearded dragons as adults, look for an alert dragon that is interested in what is happening, feeds well, has regular bathroom movements and looks to be in good condition.
Bearded dragons are regularly available on the market from both private breeders, pet keepers who decide to sell their animals, and from retail shops.
Check the enclosure that they are in and make sure that it has the correct heating and lighting, ask questions about the diet, and do not be afraid to go away and think about it before making a decision - after all, this will be your pet for the next 10 years!
