Subject: TEAM BONUS/Change of approach!!!

I had a brief chat with an APSQ member who wanted clarifaction that as we were currently running somewhat behind the required team bonus targets, was there any chance of any bonus being paid at all. Ideally 3% payment would relate to hitting all targets and requires ALL targets to be hit. Obviously attaining less than that would mean a payout of less than the 3% but as seen in previous years, other factors are taken into account. Last year team bonus performance was not any better than that currently being acheived and still a payout of 4% occured. This does not mean that again we will get 4% this year as David weighs up all the factors and then decides.

I was concerned over another statement that if there was no chance of getting any bonus, people just would not bother and do the minimum. I would be surprised to see any staff adopting this attitude as much required in the team bonus targets are an extension to your profiles and are directly geared up to provide good customer service. Anyone in the team not wishing to adopt an attitude to do their best irrespective of whether they get a few quid in their pockets should make their intensions very clear to me. I will then arrange transfer to another team if anyone will accept them , otherwise they will find themselves out of a job following disciplianary proceedings.I AM NOT JOKING.

This leads nicely into an area which Nick Smith has covered many times in recent L & P conferences which I have attended. This is attitude and get up and go.

I do not relate to the statement that we should be all lucky to have a job as the company gets as much from us being here as we get from being employed by it but I do relate to the fact that while we are here, we should all give our best, be totally customer focused and put in that little bit of extra effort that makes all the difference. What you put in ,you will get out. Put a little effort in and the job will never change, be seen as boring. Alternatively give it your all and the job will be more than just shifting endless quotes and a sense of acheivement will be obtained.

The above is not a surmon, but makes bloody good sense. You spend more time at work than you do with your friends/family and most of you have got probably more than 35 years more of it before retirement age. Its a hell of a long time to plod along, being bored out of your brain. Lets see if we can inject a wee bit more enthusiasm into our work, take a bit more pride in where we work by clearing up empty boxes/paper etc. If you feel that the office environment is partly to blame let me know and I can see if we can get things like plants to create a better atmosphere etc.

This memo is not aimed at any one individual as we all have faults. What I am looking for is a sense of keeness. BASICALLY ITS SHAKE UP TIME. IF YOU ARE WITH ME, THEN GREAT, IF NOT BEWARE!!.
